Game Overview: Link's
Awakening was the first Zelda game that had absolutely nothing
to do with Ganon or Princess Zelda. It was also questionable
whether or not the whole story was anything but a dream. But
that doesn't change the fact that this is a very good game.
It was a very creative innovation on Nintendo's part, giving
Zelda fans a break from the "save the princess" bit. The
game has the most "fun" objects in the game. No
one will ever forget the evil store manager. If you were to
steal from the local shop, the next time you walked in, the
store manager would kill you. Another was the "bomb arrows."
With the ability to equip any of the items to either the A
or B button, you could choose the bombs to one button and
the arrows to the other. You could then press both the buttons
at the same time and fire exploding arrows. This was the only
game, until recently (Twilight Princess) that featured this
ability. Another added bonus was the use of the Game Boy Printer
in the DX Version. Througout the game, Link would have his
picture taken, which would be added to a picture gallery,
and could later be printed using the Game Boy Printer. There
were a total of ten pictures in all. The
Game had a rather wierd ending, not to give too much away,
but it definately strayed from the typical Zelda style at
the time. Some consider it one of the worst, but some love
it. Personally, it's number four on my top five list, so I
think it was a smart more on Nintendo's part to try and be
innovative and new.
