In 1993, Nintendo released Link's Awakening for the Game Boy. Five years later, they released Link's Awakening DX for the brand new Game Boy Color. And what better way to show off a brand new system than to colorize an already great game.

The game took advantage of the Game Boy Color's new technology in every way possible. For starters, everything was colored, which was in itself a great upgrade for the game (see comparison image above). The game also featured a very... unique... colored dungeon. Reached by knocking down a book in the library, the DX's colored dungeon put to use every color imaginable on things that never even needed colors. Coloring everything from walls to water vividly, the color dungeon was a great bonus item that really showed off Nintendo's new technology. The colored dungeon, when completed, allowed Link to don different tunics, a red one which doubled Link's attack power, or a blue one that doubled Link's defense. View an image of the dungeon here.

Another thing this game really used was the Game Boy Color Printer. It was a rather odd accessory that allowed you to print up photos taken from your game. Link's Awakening DX featured ten different places to take rather perky photos of Link, which you could print out. I guess it may have had potential to be cool... I don't know, you decide.
