Enemies Guide:

Overworld Enemies

Armos: They may look like regular suits of armor, but if Link touches them in the slightest, they will spring to life. Some of them guard secret passages or items. They move at varying speeds and don't drop anything when they are defeated.

Gheeni: Gheeni's are really just one-eyed ghosts. They only show themselves in the cemetary. In each area, there is only one present to begin with. To defeat all the gheeni in the area, you must defeat this one, as it is the only one vulnerable.

Leever: A very monstrous beaver. This creature has no eyes, but has four claws/spikes/teeth rotating at the top of its body. It is capable of burrowing in the ground. The blue variety appears randomly while the red appears a couple spaces from where Link is standing.

Lynel: A centaur-like creature, except it is half-man, half-lion. Only the magical shield can protect you from the swords they throw. The blue are much stronger and faster than the red.

Moblin: These dog-like creatures are a trademark creature to 2D Zelda games. They are common in the forests and shoot arrows. The blue are much stronger, and if you defeat them, they may or may not drop Bombs.

Octorok: These land-octopi are the first enemy Link encounters. They shoot rocks, which can be blocked with any shield. Blue is much stronger, and may drop bombs when defeated.

Peahat: Peahats are nothing more than flying plants. They do not attack, but can not be attacked while moving. Link's only chance to defeat them is when they are immobile.

Rocks: Rocks fall near Death Mountain, and cannot be killed OR blocked. They fall three at a time, and follow Link as much as possible.

Tektite: Tektites are like four-legged spiders that hop around randomly. They are capable of jumping over all terrain.

Zora: The Zora, before befriended in later games, can be found in the waters of Hyrule, normally attacking Link with some sort of energy ball that can only be blocked with the Magical Shield. You can defeat them, but do it before they submerge themselves again, or they restore their health.

Underworld Enemies

Bubble: The bubbles are floating enemies that cannot be attacked. When Link touches one, he will be stunned and unable to swing his sword for a few seconds. In the Second Quest, if Link touches a red bubble, he must touch a blue bubble in order to swing his sword again.

Darknut: These evil knights cannot be attacked by the boomerang, nor from the front with any attack. The blue are much stronger than the red.

Gel: These jello-like enemies never drop items, and can be easily killed with the boomerang.

Gibido: These mummies are very slow. Their hobby is running into heroes on important missions to save young damsels in distress. They have a high defense, but are pretty weak.

Goriya: These walking rodents throw boomerangs that can be blocked with any shield. The blue are much stronger than the red.

Keese: Keese are bats that fly around, trying to bite you. They never drop items, and can be killed with the boomerang.

Lanmola: Lanmolas are very fast giant caterpillars. Attacks remove single parts of its body until the head remains. The Magical Rod is very helpful. The blue is much faster than the red.

Like-Like: This creature is a tube that has a liking for defensive mechanisms. If it grabs Link, it will eat the Magical Shield, leaving Link with his first shield.

Moldorm: A slow worm. It normally has five or six segments. Attacking it removes the segments until it is defeated.

Patra: The patra only appears in Level 9. It is one giant flying eyeball surrounded by a swarm of smaller eyeballs. They move slowly altogether, but the smaller eyes move very fast. The giant eye is invulnerable until the smaller ones are all defeated.

Pols Voice: This bunny head-like creature hops around the screen. They are very vulnerable to the arrow, but have a very strong defense otherwise. On the Famicom Disk, you can blow into the microphone to defeat them.

Rope: The cobra enemy can make nests in certain rooms. If they line up with Link, they will charge immediately toward him.

Stalfos: These are mobile skeletons that carry swords. They hurt you if you touch them. In the Second Quest, Stalfos can throw swords.

Traps: Traps are square jewels that are spiked on all sides. If you walk in front of them, they speed toward you. They cannot be destroyed and guard many room entrances.

Wallmaster: Wallmasters are hands that appear from the walls. If they get ahold of Link, they will take him back to the entrance of the dungeon.

Wizzrobe: A robed wizard capable of shooting powerful blasts of magic. The red can teleport, while the blue can levitate.

Vire: This demon bounces around. If it is hit with an attack, it will either disappear or split into two red keese.

Zol: A giant jello monster. When hit, it splits into two Gels.
