Items Guide:

Swords
Wooden Sword: This is the first and weakest sword that Link is able to get.
White Sword: This is the second sword that Link can get it the game. It is the second strongest sword. Link must have five Heart Containers before he can get it.
Magic Sword: This is the most powerful sword. It is known as the Master Sword in later games. He can get this when he has twelve Heart Containers. In the first quest, it is found in Section 7, but in the second quest, it is found in Section 3.

B Button Items
Arrows: These are shot from the bow. Every time you shoot an arrow, one rupee is taken from your pocket. The silver arrow is more powerful, and is required to beat the game.
Bomb: The bomb explodes to kill enemies or reveal holes in weak walls. Link's bomb bag can only hold eight bombs at once, but later in the game this increases to twelve, then sixteen.
Boomerangs: The boomerangs kill weak enemies and stun larger enemies. They can also retrieve items such as rupees or hearts. The magic boomerang has twice the range as the wooden boomerang.
Bow: Shoots arrows. Link must own a bow before he can shoot arrows.
Candles: Kinda like a flame thrower. The blue candle can only be used once per screen, while the red candle can be used an infinite amount of times.
Letter: This is required to gain the Water of Life.
Monster Bait: This attraces enemies, making them vulnerable. It is expensive, but it can be very useful.
Magic Wand: Shoots magic like Wizzrobes.
Water of Life: This completely fills Link's bar. It can also restore the curse brought upon by touching a Bubble.
Whistle: A transportation device used to take Link to the entrance of any dungeon that he has discovered.

Automatic Items
Book of Magic: This causes the blasts from the Magic Wand make the target burst into flame. This can also be used to light up a room.
Compass: This tells Link where the Piece of Triforce is.
Heart Container: This gives an additional heart to Link's life meter.
Key: This thing will open one door each. Link can carry up to nine until he obtains the magic key.
Ladder: This allows Link to cross rivers and chasms that are one space wide.
Magic Key: This one thing eliminates the use of keys, as it is like having a billion of them.
Map: This is a map of the current dungeon so that you won't get lost easily.
Piece of Triforce: There is one of these in each dungeon, and all nine are required to get to Level 9.
Power Bracelet: This makes Link stronger so that he can move heavy objects.
Raft: This can only be used at a dock, and it allows Link to cross large bodies of water.
Rings: The blue ring cuts the damage Link takes in half, and turns his tunic blue. The red ring cuts it down to a quarter and turns his tunic red.
Shields: Shields reflect certain projectile attacks. You start with the small shield, and get the large shield later in the game. The Large shield reflects more attacks than the small shield. Like-Likes eat your large shield and replace it with your small shield.

Enemy Items
Fairy: Fairies give Link three hearts. In fairy ponds, fairies will fill all of your hearts.
Heart: Fills Link's meter by one heart.
Rupee: Flashing rupees are worth one, and blue rupees are worth five. Link can carry 255 rupees at a time, and this can never be upgraded.
Stopwatch: Time freezes for the area you are in, but the effect wears off as soon as you leave the area.
