The 6th Annual Golden Item Awards
15 Feb 2010 - The King of Hyrule
Hey everybody! It's that time of year again: time for Exploding Deku Nut's Golden Item Awards.

Two years ago, Zelda Capital was the proud recipient of the Golden Ocarina Award for most aspiring website. This year, anyone feel like nominating Zelda Capital for the most stunning site award?

The GIAs are a legendary happening in the Zelda community, and for those who don't know, the GIAs are based off of suggested sites. To find out more about the GIAs, as well as suggest a site (*cough* Zelda Capital *cough*), visit this page.

Happy nominating!

On a small side note, we have a possible news updater. I will let you guys know as soon as I know.

Status Update Time...
11 Feb 2010 - The King of Hyrule
Okay so I think it has been a bit too long since I have updated Zelda Capital. I have been kind of putting it on the back burner for a while now, which upsets me due to the large amount of work I have put into this site over the years.

So I have decided it is time to officially recruit a permanent news poster for the site. I figure it is just a start to getting this site back up and running again.

What I am looking for is a person who has at least basic knowledge of HTML (even better: experience of CuteNews). You must have solid writing skills, and a devotion to the site.

If you are interested, please email me at webmaster@zeldacapital.com with your name and an example of your work.

Thanks in advance to everyone that is willing it to help!

New Video Guide and Another Zelda Marathon (With a Competition!)
23 Dec 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Though news has been slow (even on break I seem to be busy, and I still have yet to get my copy of Spirit Tracks), a devoted user has sent in part one of hopefully a soon-to-be-complete Ocarina of Time Video Guide! The first part is kind of a test video, covering how to get the sword and the shield. Hopefully parts shall keep coming in! You can view this part, and any other parts I add here.

In community news, website ExtraLives.org is putting on a Zelda marathon for charity. The marathon will begin on Wednesday, December 30th, at 12:00 PM EST, and will benefit Free The Children, a charity that provides clean water, healthcare, food, and education to children in developing nations. The interesting thing about this competition: it will be played as a race:

The Marathon will be formatted as a race. We'll be split into two teams, with each team vying to finish their set of games first. The broadcast will be formatted so both teams' progress will be visible at once.

As an incentive to donate, Extra Lives is raffling off a Philips CD-i system, plus 18 games, after the auction, and every $5.00 USD donated earns you one chance to win.

The games they will be playing through are:

    * The Legend of Zelda (NES)
    * Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES)
    * The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
    * The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
    * The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64)
    * The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GC)
    * The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GC/Wii)
    * Link: The Faces of Evil (CDi)
    * Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon (CDi)
    * Zelda's Adventure (CDi)

Be sure to stop in and watch the marathon on December 30th!

06 Dec 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Well, it's that time of year again everybody! The holidays are upon us, and what better way to celebrate than with a brand new copy of Spirit Tracks, which hits stores TOMORROW!

I have once again added festive decorations to the site, and will be adding controls shortly (change wind speed/direction, and the option to turn the snow off). The decorations will be left up all December and into January, so enjoy them while you can! (The lights are particularly fun to smash.)

I hope you all have a great holiday season and a Merry Christmas!

Spirit Tracks Commercial for the U.S.
25 Nov 2009 - Chiaro04

Hey again! I just found another Spirit Tracks commercial for the U.S. This video was the best commercial I have seen for a video game and I hope you guys think it is too. In the beginning, there is a man playing a flute-like instrument, which is the Spirit Pipes in Spirit Tracks. Also, look carefully at all the details on the train because have a lot to do with Zelda.

The Forums Are Back!
18 Nov 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Well it seems technology has prevailed again. No matter what I tried to restore the old forums they just did not want to work. So I deleted all of the files and completely reinstalled the software. Thanks to our wonderful backup system, all of the posts and the users have been preserved, so no re-registering is needed!

I will be attempted to re-skin the forums as soon as possible, but a lot was changed around in this version (causing all of the problems this past week), so it may take me a little bit (two weeks, tops). MW2 has also been absorbing my life, so take that into account as well. The default layout is not bad, but the shoutbox and all of that is gone for now, so I will see what I can do about that.

If you have any problems with the forums, please contact me ASAP and let me know so I can get everything ironed out and working smoothly again.

Now get back to posting!

Forum Updates and Staff Openings
15 Nov 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Okay, so as you all know our forums have been down since Monday thanks to the quality *cough*cough* SMF software update they released. The entire forum layout got real messed up, so I have begun the long and annoying process of recoding the layout for the new version of the forums. In the mean time, I will just upload the plain forums with the default layout, and you can post on that while I work on re-skinning the new one. All of your forums data and posts should be there, and I'll try to get the forums up and running again as soon as possible.

Also, with the sudden influx of news, between my life, the problems with the forums, and other things, I am unable to keep up with the news, so if you are interested in helping out with news posts, please email me at webmaster@zeldacapital.com. Please include a sample of your writing (just a short paragraph) so I can see that you can write coherent sentences.

Thanks for sticking by us as I work to get this problem ironed out.

I Swear This Happens Every Time...
09 Nov 2009 - The King of Hyrule
So our forum software just came out with a new version of the software, and they recommended an upgrade. So what do I, being the good webmaster that I am, do? Of course, I upgrade the forums, as recommended. And what does this do? BREAKS THE WHOLE FREAKING SITE.

Needless to say I am quite pissed off. Of course, when I tried to restore a backup I made before upgrading, I got an error. Great. Just freaking freak.

I have been working on the problem for quite sometime yet, and will most likely have to revert back to the version we had before the upgrade. This should all be done my tomorrow, but alas, the new Call of Duty game comes out tomorrow, so we'll see what I'm able to get done ;)

Check Facebook/Twitter for more frequent action by action updates.

Much Ado About Spirit Tracks
05 Nov 2009 - The King of Hyrule
So I have fallen wayyyy behind in terms of Spirit Tracks news. My solution: one giant update to rule them all.

First on the list: the Japanese Spirit Tracks website has surfaced, and can be found here. The website has given us the first official scenery artwork, which can be seen to the left (click for a larger image). The scene is the image featured on the European box art for Spirit Tracks, and is absolutely gorgeous in my opinion. What is that tower in the background?

On the topic of Japan, the Japanese release date for Spirit Tracks has been announced. The funny thing? It is scheduled for release on December 23, 2009, after both North Americans and Europeans get their hands on the game.

The first commercial for Spirit Tracks has been aired in the UK, and can be viewed below. This commercial will be available for download and in the Zelda Capital Video Center soon!

Finally, the largest news story of the day: 17 photos from Spirit Tracks have been leaked to GameTrailers.com. One is featured to the right, and you can view the rest in the Zelda Capital Gallery.

Spirit Tracks European Box Art
28 Oct 2009 - The King of Hyrule
The European box art for the upcoming Spirit Tracks has finally surfaced:

I am MUCH more impressed with this box artwork. It has a much more artsy style (beside the train that is), and looks much nicer than the box art coming stateside. You can expect to see this box art hit shelves on December 11th, later this year.

4" DSi to Hit Japan Later This Year
26 Oct 2009 - The King of Hyrule
According to Nikkei, a Japanese news service, a new Nintendo DSi is on its way to Japan later in this year. The latest addition? A 4 inch screen.

Apple is a company known for releasing new products extremely often. If anyone owns an iPod they see this effect the most. It seems like no matter when you buy the iPod, it is almost instantly out of date. Could Nintend be following suit? The original DSi was released under a year ago, and now Japan is getting yet another model.

It has yet to be confirmed for areas outside of Japan, and likely we will never see this stateside, but it is an interesting idea. Would you guys pay full price for a DSi with four inch screens? I wouldn't.

Also, I want to apologize for the downtime. I have been cleaning out the server, and all of my downloading/updating/deleting of files has slowed down the site to the extreme. This problem should have fixed itself by now, but if not I am considering new hosting. Again.

The First Annual Triforce Hunt Now Officially Over
21 Oct 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Triforce Hunt Logo

As many of you probably know, we have been holding our first annual Triforce Hunt here at Zelda Capital over the past four weeks. This was the first time we have ever attempted something like this, and overall, I would say it was a success. We had about 6 major contestants, so I would like to have seen more people turn out, but maybe next year. It was a first for me, and I think I may try to switch it up a bit next year, but we'll see where that goes.

I will announce the winners tomorrow once everything is in and double checked. IF YOU HAVE ANY ANSWERS THAT YOU HAVE NOT SUBMITTED YET GET THOSE IN BY 11:59 PM TONIGHT OR THEY WILL NOT BE COUNTED!

Thanks everyone for your feedback and participation in the first ever Triforce Hunt. Check back next year same time (beginning of school-ish)!

Also, Zelda Capital received some free things that we may be giving away in the near future. Stay tuned.

Spirit Tracks Limited Edition
19 Oct 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Over at Gamestation.co.uk, come December you can get your Spirit Tracks fill through a special limited edition tin choc full of cool stuff. What you get in the tin:
  • The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks for the Nintendo DS
  • Link and Phantom figurines
  • Of course, the limited edition tin (see picture)
This is a pretty cool deal, but as far as I can tell, is only available in Europe for now. The deal is £39.99, which is just under $60 USD. It's pretty cool all in all, but not worth the import price in my opinion.

The Fourth and Final Triforce Hunt Session Begins
14 Oct 2009 - The King of Hyrule
So I know I'm a little late in the day in posting this, but I got home a lot later then expected. Without further ado: the Zelda Capital Triforce Hunt Session 4. Pay attention this time because this session has a few twists:
  • The Triforces can be found anywhere on the site, but just the site, no forums. Look on all pages, as deep as possible.
  • Time is of the essence, as the quickest people to send in their results will get the most points!
  • ONE TRIFORCE DOES NOT HAVE AN IMAGE. This Triforce his hidden somewhere on the index (home) page of the site. It is not hidden hard, just creative (in my opinion). Good luck finding it.
  • The image you are looking for looks like this: (this is just a demo)

This week's hunt contains eleven letters, separated into two words. When you find all of the hidden Triforces, visit the Submission Page and submit your answers! This session will last until next Wednesday. It is the final session in the First Annual Triforce Hunt.

Also, to check the scores check out the Triforce Hunt Score Page! This page will be updated daily (hopefully) with the latest scores. Our current leader is Seeker with 22 points.

If you have any questions, ask them on the forums. Happy Triforce hunting!

07 Oct 2009 - The King of Hyrule
The first annual Triforce Hunt on Zelda Capital is finally on the second to last session: Session 3. So roll up those sleeves and get to digging. Here are a few things to keep in mind (again):

  • Time is of the essence, as the quickest people to send in their results will get the most points!
  • The image you are looking for looks like this: (this is just a demo)

This week's hunt contains eight letters, forming one word. When you find all of the hidden Triforces, visit the Submission Page and submit your answers! This session will last until next Wednesday.

Also, to check the scores check out the Triforce Hunt Score Page! This page will be updated daily (hopefully) with the latest scores. Our current leader is Seeker with 20 points.

If you have any questions, ask them on the forums. Happy Triforce hunting!

Spirit Tracks European Release Date

Just a few weeks ago Nintendo announced that Spirit Tracks, the latest Zelda installment for the Nintendo DS would hit shelves in North America on December 7th, 2009. Just yesterday, Nintendo of Europe officially confirmed that Spirit Tracks will be released in Europe on December 11th, 2009!

A Japanese release date is still to be heard, but Spirit Tracks will most likely drop in Japan before North America and Europe. But December is coming fast! Are you excited?

Also, don't forget to check out our Triforce Hunt, which is in the middle of Session 2 right now! (See below post.)

Triforce Hunt Session 2!
30 Sep 2009 - The King of Hyrule
The first annual Triforce Hunt on Zelda Capital continues today with Session 2! Time to find the next set of Triforces! Here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • The Triforces can be found anywhere on the site, HOWEVER, I have left the forums out this time. Some of the images have been hidden deeper in the site though, so look hard!
  • Time is of the essence, as the quickest people to send in their results will get the most points!
  • The image you are looking for looks like this: (this is just a demo)

This is a two word hunt; the first word is five letters long and the second is eight, totaling thirteen letters to find! When you find all of the hidden Triforces, visit the Submission Page and submit your answers! This session will last until next Wednesday.

Also, to check the scores check out the Triforce Hunt Score Page! This page will be updated daily (hopefully) with the latest scores

If you have any questions, ask them on the forums. Happy Triforce hunting!

Session 1 Ends; Session 2 Begins Wednesday
27 Sep 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Hey guys! Session 1 of the Triforce Hunt ends today. The first session of our first ever Triforce Hunt was somewhat of a success. We had five correct submissions, and tons of people participated, judging from the activity on our forums. The general consensus was that the contest was a bit too hard, so I will take that into consideration for the next session.

Session 2 is set to begin this Wednesday! Check in on Wednesday around 4 PM or so to participate in the second session of the Zelda Capital Triforce Hunt! There is still a chance to take first place! Check out the TH Scores page to see the latest scores.

Triforce Hunt Session 1 Begins Today!
20 Sep 2009 - The King of Hyrule
The first annual Triforce Hunt on Zelda Capital begins today! Begin searching to find those Triforces! Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • The Triforces can be found anywhere on the site, SO CHECK EVERYWHERE. This includes the forums. However, they will not be in just some random thread. Check sticky threads. ;)
  • Time is of the essence, as the quickest people to send in their results will get the most points!
  • The image you are looking for looks like this: (this is just a demo)

The word this session is ten letters long, so you are looking for ten images scattered across the site. When you find all of the hidden Triforces, visit the Submission Page and submit your answers! This session will last until Saturday night, so hurry hurry hurry!

Also, to check the scores check out the Triforce Hunt Score Page! This page will be updated daily (hopefully) with the latest scores

If you have any questions, ask them on the forums. Happy Triforce hunting!

Don't Forget!
18 Sep 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Hey everybody! Just a reminder that our first annual Triforce Hunt contest will be beginning this Sunday, at approximately 12:00/1:00 PM EST. A post will let you know on Sunday that the contest is a go. Don't forget to tell your friends!

Also, the prizes of the contest have been changed around a bit, seeing as how GameStop does not issue gift cards in $5. The first prize will remain the same, as well as the second prize, but for third place, the prize is now solely a $10 GameStop gift card, instead of a $5 gift card and a custom forum title.

I look forward to seeing you all Sunday!

The First Annual Triforce Hunt
12 Sep 2009 - The King of Hyrule

EDIT: SESSION 1 OF THE TRIFORCE HUNT HAS BEGUN!

A little while back, Zelda Capital attempted to host its very first contest: a Spirit Tracks forum contest. However, the contest did not turn out as well as I had hoped. This here contest is our second try. I present to you the first annual Triforce Hunt.

The Triforce Hunt is a simple contest, but a fun one. There will be four sessions of the Triforce Hunt, each lasting a week, as this is our first run of the contest. The rules are simple: find all of the Triforce symbols hidden around the site (forums included), and assemble the letters that are with them to form a word(s).

In more detail: all around the site I have hidden Triforce symbols. Next to each symbol is a letter and a number. The numbers simply number the Triforces, so you know when you found them all. Each letter is part of a larger word(s), and discovering that word(s) is your goal in this contest.

When the first session begins (next Sunday, September 20th), I will set up a page specifically for submitting TH answers. For instance, the first session is a ten letter word, so there are 13 blanks on the form. The first two are your name and email, and the last is the completed word(s) for that session. The other ten blanks are labeled "Triforce #1 Letter" and "Triforce #2 Letter" and so on and so forth all the way to ten. In those blanks you will put the single letter that you found at each Triforce, SO KEEP TRACK OF WHAT LETTER YOU FOUND AT WHAT TRIFORCE! Also, the Triforces will be clearly marked, even if they are small, so do not confuse a decorative Triforce with a contest one.

The letters will be scrambled, so you will have to unscramble the letters to discover the secret word(s). THE WORD(S) WILL ALWAYS BE SOMETHING ZELDA RELATED, so it won't be something obscure that has nothing to do with Zelda.

Each session, participants have the opportunity to win points. The person with the most number of point at the end wins (I'll get into prizes later). The way you earn points is this:
  • the first person to find all of the hidden Triforces and assemble the hidden word CORRECTLY will receive ten (10) points
  • the second person to complete the challenge will receive seven (7) points
  • the third person to turn in their results will receive five (5) points
  • every other person that turns in their CORRECT results after the first three will receive two (2) points
That's right: even after the first three submissions have been made, you can still earn points. Points will be kept track of by myself, and will reside on a constantly updated page that tells you who is in the lead.

The prizes of this contest have changed around slightly. First prize is, of course, a brand new copy of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, when it is released (or a gift card to GameStop of equal value, about $30 USD), which will go to the person with the most points at the end of all four sessions. Second prize will be a ten dollar ($10 USD) gift card to GameStop (can be used online or in-store), as well as a custom forum title, providing they are a member of the Zelda Capital Forums. The third prize will be a ten dollar ($10 USD) gift card to GameStop.

The first session will begin next week: Sunday, September 20. Please please please tell your friends, because the more people that participate, the better prizes we can offer next time around! You can expect a starting post on Sunday, as well as a reminder post some time this week to remind you of the contest!

I hope you're as excited about this as I am. :) More details will come at the start of the contest.

Contest Suspended
08 Sep 2009 - The King of Hyrule
So as most of you have probably seen, we have been hosting a contest on our forums for some time now. However, this contest did not exactly go as well as I had originally planned or intended. So I have decided to start over.

I apologize to all those that participated in the contest, as you will have to start over as well. However, I guarantee the new idea I have for a contest will be much more fun, provided we get enough participation. The idea is still in the alpha stages, so stay tuned as I post more information!

Spirit Tracks Given Top Honors
05 Sep 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Recently the Gamescon 2009 conference passed us by. Gamescon is not a huge conference, so it is no surprise that Nintendo did not give us any new news related to Zelda. Nintendo instead showcased a Spirit Tracks demo, and because of it, Spirit Tracks was given the Top DS Honors by IGN. IGN had this to say about Spirit Tracks:

"While the build of Spirit Tracks at Gamescom might have been the very same one that graced Los Angeles' showfloor back in June, we're not complaining. After all, this is an all-new Zelda and, not only that, it's a follow-up to one of the best recent entries in the series. Taking the Phantom Hourglass as its foundation (which itself leant heavily on the majestic Wind Waker), Spirit Tracks promises the same mix of exploration and adventure that's made Link one of videogaming's most enduring icons, and it's another feather in the DS's distinguished cap."

You can read more, as well as find out the rest of the winners for other consoles here.

While Spirit Tracks anticipation grows (or doesn't), some of us are still waiting for a Zelda Wii trailer...

Few small updates for today. So tons of people have emailed me their Did You Know? facts while I was gone, and I have finally gotten done adding all of them to the page. Be sure to drop by the DYK page to check them out!

Second, I was emailed this crazy Link's Awakening speed run. This guy glitches his way through the game in two minutes and sixteen seconds. Pretty crazy. Check it out:

Finally, real quick, please take the time to take part in our new poll. I recently bought a brand new Mac, and noticed that the site kind of warps in ALL of the browsers on Mac. So I was wondering how many people this problem affects. Please know that I am working quite hard on getting it fixed ASAP!

Zelda Capital Wins a Lozzie!
12 Aug 2009 - The King of Hyrule
LegendofZelda.com today revealed their third set of Lozzie award winners: the Rembrant, the most visually appealing site, and the Pulitzer, the site with the best news coverage.

I am very proud to say that Zelda Capital has won the Rembrant award for "most visually appealing site!" Xizor from LegendofZelda.com had this to say about our site:

Zelda Capital is, quite simply, stunning. Although their header is quite large, it is nonetheless impressive and captivating. The fan-art feel of the whole thing is great, and it gives a real sense that it is a site made by fans, for fans. After looking at that, scrolling down reveals a sort of “ye olde inne” style to the site, with the heading banners and the text style. The color scheme, to say the least, is easy on the eyes; since red is such an under-used color these days on Zelda sites, it’s nice to see some red getting good attention.

The navigation of the layout is simple and easy, with each section labeled clearly and not organized like rubbish. The way that the text fits perfectly all around, and doesn’t seem too hard to read with the color contrast, this site is quite pleasant to stick around it, assuming the content’s up to snuff! Like Hyrule.net, Zelda Capital also features a login box at the top of their site for the forums, so I’ll pop on over to their forums.

At the crossover, I notice that the site layout is fully integrated; that is to say, the front page and the forums feel like they are literally part of one site, rather than two separate entities with two very distinct layouts and color schemes. In today’s Zelda Community, that is definitely a rarity. In the end, Zelda Capital is a beautifully designed site, and that’s just all the more reason to go and check them out and see what they have to offer!

Thank you very much LoZ.com for this award, and I am extremely proud to have won it. I'm glad that you all enjoy the layout, and I look forward to seeing the rest of the winners of the Lozzie awards this week!

Check the post below to see the winners-to-date! Click here to read the full news post on LegendofZelda.com!

I'm Home!
04 Aug 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Hey everybody! I just got back from camp. It was a ton of fun, but also a lot of hard work. But it was all rewarding in the end. I hope all of your summers are going well, and I want to say a special thanks to ebuch and Princess Zelda for taking care of the site while I was gone. I need a few days to get back into the swing of things (and possibly transfer everything to my new computer), so see you around!

Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love Boxart
15 Jul 2009 - ebuch
Here's some good news for you guys:  Nintendo's latest installment in the Tingle spin-off series now has something pretty for you to drool at!  This one looks similar to the Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland but now comes with more flowers, rainbows, and pink silhouettes of women!  The game does not have a release date set.

There is also a new video released that will make your eyes bleed if they aren't already.  It's supposedly related to the game somehow, but I'll leave it up to the people who are willing to translate this stuff to do that.  Check it out:

The video leaves me completely puzzled.. I really don't have anything else to say but wow.

Hey Everybody!
11 Jul 2009 - The King of Hyrule
So we reached that halfway point in camp this past week (week 3 of 6). Camp is going really well. All of the staff is getting along, save some of the usual drama crap that's bound to happen. My parents picked me up for the weekend, so I have access to a computer for once! Just thought I'd post and say hi!

Also, as to the contest, I know it didn't work out as well as it did in my head, so I'm looking for a new direction to take it. If you have any ideas, please post them in this forum thread, and we'll take them into consideration. Please note that changes most likely won't take place until I get back from camp in August.

I'll be around for the rest of tonight and possibly tomorrow morning, so look for me on the forums! If I don't talk to you then I'll see you guys in three more weeks. I hope you're following the ZC Twitter feed that I have been updating from camp. :)

Banish the Triforce?
08 Jul 2009 - ebuch
ZeldaInformer.com's writer Nathanial Rumphol-Janc has recently been putting up ideas for ways Nintendo could reboot so to say the series.  His previous article was related to the nonexistence of Ganondorf in the games to come.  His most recent post is a heavily opiniated write-up about removing the beloved Triforce in future games.  The intent of these articles clearly must be purely for generating discussion amongst fans by first posting opinions that are radically different from the mainstream Zelda fans.  Hit the article for some good debatin'.

Zelda Universe: A Two-Faced Legend
27 Jun 2009 - ebuch
Today we are treated with yet another one of Zelda Universe's from their series of articles "The Missing Link."  This time guest writer Jeff explains how the differences in each of the games have helped the franchise succeed with such a large variety of video gamers.

Yet another well-crafted article put up by the ZU guys... The points made are very clean cut and well put.  If you've got the spare time today and need something good to read, you know where to go.

The 100 Year Itch
22 Jun 2009 - Princess Zelda

A very nice article was posted in Zelda Universe about how Spirit Tracks, and future titles, are creeping its way into the future. It gives both sides of the arguement, like how it would help the Zelda series, or how it would crush the "Zelda feel". It is very well written, very funny, and VERY long.

Here is a passage from the article:

"In the hundred years since Phantom Hourglass, it can be assumed land was finally found, peopled, agricultured, civilized and the beginnings of a technological culture have formed. In the real world, trains and horses lived side-by-side for a time before the internal combustion engine gave everyone wheels. I believe that this new Zelda takes place in a similar grace period. The beginning of an industrial revolution – but just the beginning.

While Spirit Tracks still appears to hold to the fantasy roots of the series, perhaps it marks a turning point – after all, there is only so much future left to go without getting into cars and planes and guns. How long before long all you have left are lasers and spaceships?"

You can read the rest of the article here.

Shiggy Says: MotionPlus is the Goal
16 Jun 2009 - ebuch

Nintendo recently revealed lots of new surprises during their E3 2009 Keynote last week.  Despite there being hardly any mention of Zelda during the conference, Nintendo actually released another Spirit Tracks trailer and screenshots.
The new information about Spirit Tracks was seemingly almost forgotten by many Zelda fans, as they flocked to the news about new concept artwork for the next Wii Zelda game.  Nintendo has said very little about the artwork or the game itself, but they briefly said at their roundtable discussion that they might decide to include Wii MotionPlus into the gameplay, depending on how well the peripheral succeeds in its earlier stages.  More recently, Miyamoto told Wired that it is Nintendo's desire to make the next Wii Zelda strictly MotionPlus controlled.

I think MotionPlus would be a big step up for Zelda, especially since the Wii is pretty much built for swordplay.. If the rumors about the mysterious artwork figure having to do with the Master Sword are true, this could really get interesting.  Possibly the first Zelda game to have 1:1 sword motion controls and it focuses on the Master Sword.  I like it.

Wii MotionPlus is released this Friday... lets see what it can do!

Zelda Universe: Immortal Childhood
15 Jun 2009 - ebuch
Zelda fans, get ready for an article that has to be one of the most inspiring ever written by one fan alone.  Writer Hylian Dan from Zelda Universe covers many aspects of the Zelda games that link their stories and their messages together, focusing on the ones that are between Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and The Wind Waker.  The huge article pays close attention to themes of maturity and morality, and takes a fine look at how the two intervene together as a child grows up.

Spirit's House in Link's Awakening

To me, this article seemed to make a whole lot of sense. Time seems like a nasty thing to try to mess with, and it's best to learn to move on with the flow of things.  I highly recommend that you all give this a full read, if not now then bookmark it for later but this is a one of a kind.  If it doesn't change your perspective on the Zelda games, it will change your perspective on life.

Spirit Tracks Wins!
14 Jun 2009 - Princess Zelda

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks won an award. And its not even out yet. It won IGN's Best of E3: Nintendo DS: Best Adventure Game. The runner ups were some crime game called Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, (try saying that 5 times fast), and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2. Clearly, Spirit Tracks didn't have much competition. Here is what IGN said about Spirit Tracks:

"From the opening hours of the show to the dwindling minutes on Thursday night, Nintendo's latest portable Zelda adventure commanded a vast crowd that lined up around the Big N's booth for a chance to play Link's latest quest. They're right to be excited, as you should be -- with the solid foundation of The Phantom Hourglass engine, an all-new rail-riding train system put in place and more new dungeons and inventive touch-controlled items to experience, Spirit Tracks is in a great position to become one of the biggest hits of this holiday season on DS. It was definitely the adventure hit of E3."

So, I guess you can expect the Spirit Tracks gameplay to be like Phantom Hourglass, with a twist.

Farewell For Now
12 Jun 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Well guys, just like last summer, I am working as a camp counselor two hours away from home. The camp I work at has no internet access, and I will not have the chance to come home until camp ends. This is my last news post before I leave, so farewell to everybody.

As to news, Princess Zelda and ebuch have both graciously agreed to keep Zelda Capital updated with the latest news while I am gone. Please treat them well and thank them for helping out!

If you want to keep in contact with me over the summer, I will be posting updates from my cell phone to the Zelda Capital Twitter feed. I'm not quite sure what exactly I will post there, but if you want to know how I'm doing, be sure to check that out.

I will be returning August 3rd, so expect an update to come then. Until then guys, have a good summer, check out the Zelda Capital Forums if you are not already a member, and keep checking Zelda Capital for the latest updates! See you all in two months! Don't forget about our Spirit Tracks contest!

11 Jun 2009 - The King of Hyrule
So I have been hinting at a surprise for the past couple of weeks now. Today I am quite excited to bring you the first ever Zelda Capital Contest. In this content, I am offering you an opportunity to win a free brand new copy of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks for the Nintendo DS when it is released. That’s right: a FREE copy of Spirit Tracks for the winner of this contest.

The contest is a competition to see who can refer the most new members to the Zelda Capital Forums. This is the contest in a nutshell:

  • The contest will begin tomorrow, Friday, June 12, 2009.
  • To participate you must be a member of the Zelda Capital Forums with at least twenty posts. You may join in the contest at any time by simply joining the forums and making the required forum posts. (Referred members are allowed to participate in the contest.)
  • A referral system will be installed on the Zelda Capital Forums tomorrow morning that will count the number of members you refer to the Zelda Capital Forums. The referral system gives every member a unique link that you can give to others that will add to your count if that person registers. To get your link, starting tomorrow, it can be found in your forum profile.
  • In order for a referral to be counted as valid, you as the member must get the referred person to:
    • Register on the Zelda Capital Forums
    • Make at least ten valid posts by the end of the contest
    • Add the username of the member that referred them (you) to the appropriate profile field on the Zelda Capital Forums

The contest will begin tomorrow, Friday, June 12, 2009.

The winner of the contest, as said before, will receive a free, brand new copy of Spirit Tracks, courtesy of Zelda Capital. The two runners up (second and third place) will get custom forum titles of their choosing on the Zelda Capital Forums.

I’m excited for this contest as well as interested to see how it will turn out, seeing as it is our first contest. I’m hoping this contest will be very successful, and that we’ll increase activity on the forums at the same time! I’ll say this once more – the contest begins tomorrow – I just wanted to get the word out today. Please tell your friends, invite your friends, and tell them to invite others! I look forward to seeing how this turns out.

EDIT: Got the rules page up. Click here to read the official Rules and Regulations of the contest.

Spirit Tracks Multiplayer
10 Jun 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Ever since E3 this year we have been getting lots of information on the upcoming Zelda game: Spirit Tracks. However, nothing was said of a multiplayer mode in the game. Through a translator though, we now have a quote from Miyamoto regarding the multiplayer mode:

"If you remember the last time we did this, we had that two player tag style of gameplay. This time we are bringing 4 people with local wireless, and there will be some similar sort of tag gameplay. I don't want to give too much away as far as what the gameplay will be. It will be really exciting in that there is cooperative elements and competitive elements. Remember back to what Four Swords gameplay was like, but you won't be using any swords."

Hmm... no swords? We'll have to wait and see.

New Mech!
09 Jun 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Some of you may remember a staff member we had a while back by the name of Sage Raziel. Sage disappeared after giving us five of his wonderful Game Mechs, but has been in contact with me since then. Sage Raziel is returning to us today with a brand new Mech: Phantom Hourglass. This has got to be one of my favorite Mechs, as Sage's writing skills have greatly increase. Head over to Mech Central to and read the new Phantom Hourglass Mech!

For those of you who don't know, Game Mechs are short, but in-depth descriptions of a game's development and other such attributes, along with interesting facts about the game. The Mechs are not long, but are jam packed with info. Give them a read if you haven't already!

In other news, we have a brand new affiliate: The Sacred Realm! TSR, formerly known as Legends and Adventures, is a veteran site in the Zelda community. Lysia, the webmaster, is extremely nice, so be sure to stop over at The Sacred Realm.

Zelda Capital Version 7
07 Jun 2009 - The King of Hyrule
First off - if the web page looks funny, clear your cache .

After months and months of work, I finally bring you Zelda Capital Version 7. Version 7 is the culmination of over four months of work, and it is one I am very proud of. Early stages of this layout received very good comments from other webmasters, and then I took it back into the hole that is my laptop to finish it. No one has seen it with content in it, save the Zelda Capital staff, so I hope you all like it!

Obviously, with this layout, I was going for a darker look. I did not want to copy the traditional Twilight Princess or Ocarina of Time official artwork, so instead I decided to look elsewhere. The artwork you see above you has graciously been lent to Zelda Capital by Genzoman. Genzoman has many other Zelda pictures as well as other amazing artwork that he has drawn. Stop by his DeviantArt profile and thank him for allowing us to do this! His artwork perfectly fit the darker tone of the layout I was going for. Complete with the old wood, chains, and the stone, the layout successfully gives off that dungeon-like vibe I was looking for when I started this layout. Also new with this layout is the “ribbon” style page. Lots of other sites do this, and it is something that I have been wanting to try for a while, so I threw it into this layout, and it fit quite well.

Accompanying the new site layout is a brand new forum layout. It has been a long time since we have changed the forum layout, so this is a breath of fresh air for forum-goers. This was the first time I had ever designed a layout with the forum software we are now using, so I had originally allotted myself about two weeks time to complete it. However, it ended up taking only two days, about ten hours total. The process went very smoothly, and I think the layout turned out well overall. If you are not a part of the Zelda Capital Forums yet, now is as good of a time as ever to join in on all the fun.

On that note, I also added a forum login box in the top right hand corner of your screen. This box will show you your messages if you are logged in, and will ask you to log in if you are not already. Directly underneath of the login box is a site search box, something you all should try out if you need to find anything quickly.

EDIT: I almost forgot! Zelda Capital now on both Facebook and Twitter! Keep up to date with our updates on both of these fun social networking sites! View our Facebook page here and our Twitter page here.

There’s not much more to say about this layout, so on to the thanks: thanks to Hylian Hobbit, Last Hylian, KingHyrule64, and Mases of Zelda Dungeon for your layout criticisms and opinions. Thanks ahead of time to Last Hylian for the coming news skin (this one is only temporary guys), and thanks to those that have been/will be helping out with the news posts. Thanks to anyone I missed who helped with the layout or offered their opinion about it at some point or another in time. Thanks guys.

Also, before I go, let me just hint once again at the surprise coming this Thursday, June 11. ;)

Well I hope you enjoy the new layouts guys. Thanks to everyone that helped out, and I look forward to hearing your comments about the layouts. I will continue to iron out the bugs all of this week, so if you find anything broken, please let me know!

ZC Summer News Poster!
07 Jun 2009 - ebuch
Hey ZC members!  My name is Eric Buchholz aka 'ebuch'.  For a lot of you, I am probably a new face around here, but for some others of you might recognize me from a few other sites.  I've been working for Zelda Reorchestrated as a regular contributor for well over the past year making most of the songs that have been released in that time.  From there I went on to create an online Zelda radio station known as World Zelda Music Radio which streams ZREO's music as well as many other fanmade songs.  Well enough about me, I'm here to keep Zelda Capital up to the date with all of the news that pops up this summer while The King of Hyrule is away.  I'm really excited to be able to do this, I know I'm going to have a good time, and I'm sure you guys will too!

The Zelda Fansite Festival '09
07 Jun 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Each year, Exploding Deku Nut puts on an awards show for Zelda websites. Similarly, a smaller website called Ordon Village is putting on a Zelda Fansite Festival, during which sites can be nominated for awards. The awards will be given out during the week of July 6th to July 10th. Here is an excerpt from the Fansite Festival website:

"The Zelda Fansite Festival 2009 is Ordon Village’s version of the popular “Golden Item Awards” at Exploding Deku Nut! The nomination period, which has officially begun, is slated to be May 30th, 2009 to June 29th, 2009! The awards will be given out on July 8th, 2009!

To nominate a site send an email to zffnomination@ordonvillage.com with the name of the website you wish to nominate, the url to the website, what category you wish to nominate them for, and why they deserve to win the award for said category.

If you are not the webmaster of said site you are nominating, please try to let that webmaster know as we don’t want any last minute surprises. Here are the categories you can nominate a site for

“Most Dedicated Site”
“Most Fan-Oriented Site”
“Best Designed Site”
“Most Historical Site”
“Most Active/Popular Forums”

Also, there are several awards you may nominate specific Webmasters for, here are the below categories. The nomination process is the same as for Site awards:

“Most Humorous Webmaster”
“Most Dedicated Webmaster”
“Most Productive Webmaster”
“Friendliest Webmaster”
“Most Inspirational Webmaster”

Keep in mind: THIS IS NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST. You are simply nominating people. The awards will not be decided on a popularity vote or anything of the sort. So with that, have fun, and we look forward to seeing your nominations."

So everyone be sure to check out the Zelda Fansite Festival '09, and who knows, maybe you could, you know, nominate Zelda Capital for something .

Release Date?
07 Jun 2009 - Princess Zelda

There is a rumored release date for the new Zelda Wii game on numerous websites. The "set" date is December 31, 2010, for both America and Japan.

Personally, I don't think Nintendo would release a highly anticapated game on New Years Eve, when the whole world is outside partying. Nintendo's official release date has not been set. So don't expect the game to be released anytime soon.

EDIT: When a game release date is 12/31, it usually means the game would come out before that date. Or, its really going to come out that day.

Hey People!
06 Jun 2009 - Princess Zelda

Hey guys, Princess Zelda here. I'm going to help out posting new Zelda news for the next 2 weeks while The King of Hyrule is away. I won't be staying long, because I have to go to Iran for a family reunion that I do every summer. I'll leave at June 25, and I won't be coming back until August 24. I'll be posting some news soon.

New Layout Date and Summer Plans
05 Jun 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Well guys, the layout is complete. I'm working through some final things to make this layout extraordinary, but I'm here to give you an official date. The new layout, as well as the new forum layout, will be uploaded Monday morning, if not at midnight Sunday night. Come by as early as possible to see both new layouts that have taken months to craft!

There will be a special surprise coming later next week, so be sure to stop in!

Also, this summer, like last, I will be going away to work at a camp. The dates I will be gone are Saturday, June 14th to Monday, August 3rd. But don't fear, during this time two great people have volunteered to cover news for Zelda Capital. The first is Princess Zelda, long time member of the Zelda Capital Forums, and the second is ebuch, owner of World Zelda Music Radio (WZMR) and ZREO team member. Princess Zelda, however, will be leaving June 25th for a personal trip, and will not be able to post news. Both will introduce themselves quite soon to you guys, and you can expect constant top notch news reports all summer! (You may even catch a glimpse of Last Hylian, if I can ever get ahold of him. )

So that's what's going on this summer guys. I hope you all have a great summer!

Also, just a side note, summer updates may be rapid due to high amounts of news for Spirit Tracks and possible the new Zelda Wii game. If you subscribe to our email updates, you may miss occasional news posts, so it is best to just subscribe to our RSS feed if you haven't!

Zelda Wii Artwork & ST Gameplay Videos
05 Jun 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Looks like Nintendo has finally given us something to drool over while we wait for the next major console Zelda game. To the right is the official artwork of the next Zelda game. Still with no title, the Zelda Wii poster shows off a tall Link with a girl behind him.

Some interesting things that have been noted about the poster is that Link is not carrying a sword, but he does have a shield in his left hand, signifying that he will most likely be right handed again (as he was in Twilight Princess). The girl looks very similar to the fairies seen in The Wind Waker, however, many have speculated that because of the markings on the girl, the gem she wears, and her coat resembling a hilt, that she is the spirit of the Master Sword (mind you: Link isn't holding a sword in this image).

Let us know what you guys think in the forums! Also, expect the layout on Monday. I will release an official post later.

Finally, we have two new gameplay videos, one from IGN and the other from GameTrailers. Both show lots on interaction between Link and the Phantom, telling us that they are in fact friends. Something else I noticed that was said in the GameTrailers video is that "Link is an apprentice engineer." I'm not quite sure what to say to that... Decide for yourself:

New Zelda Info All Around
03 Jun 2009 - The King of Hyrule
First foremost, for all of your who were disappointed with Nintendo's lack of Zelda in their keynote speech yesterday, don't you worry. Though it has been confirmed for us before, Miyamoto once more told journalists that a Wii Zelda was coming.

Late last night after E3, a closed door discussion occurred between Miyamoto and a select few journalists. At this meeting, Miyamoto talked a little about the new Zelda game. According to the sources, the Link shown in the preview appears a bit more mature than Link in Twilight Princess. They also said that the swordplay system is much more elaborate than in Twilight Princess, and may even be used in conjunction with Nintendo's new Wii Motion Plus add-on. "Think of Zelda while you're trying some of the archery and sword play in Wii Sports Resort." said Miyamoto.

No images were taken at the meeting, but some concept art was revealed to the journalists. The artwork was of Link and a woman in blue. The Link looked very mature, according to the journalists, but they were unsure as to who or what the woman in blue was. Some said Zora, others said Princess Zelda. Miyamoto said that the game will not be released this year, so I guess we'll just have to wait till 2010 at the earliest to hear any news. *sigh*

In other news, a new Spirit Tracks trailer was released yesterday (yes, yesterday - I just avoided posting it because I wanted our live blog and my wrap-up to get some front page time as well). You can see that in all of its glory right here, courtesy of our Video Center:

As you can see, Nintendo and Indiana Jones have teamed up to bring you a new Zelda item: the Whip. It is similar to the grapple hook Link uses in The Wind Waker, but I like how he can use it as an effective weapon. Additionally, the purple butted beattle boss makes its return, and some gameplay of that boss battle is shown in this trailer. The most interesting part of that trailer for me, however, was the large Ghoma-looking beast chasing Link and his train down a tunnel. It drew my mind quickly to the movie Cloverfield, which is one I liked. You can expect a more in-depth analysis to appear on our Spirit Tracks Video Page quite soon.

Finally, we have new Spirit Tracks screenshots as well. Enjoy.

You can view these and more in the Spirit Tracks section of the Zelda Capital Gallery.

EDIT: Found some new artwork as well:

Oh and just a quick update. Both the new site and forum layouts are complete, I'm just ironing out some bugs and typing up some last minute long information. I'm looking at a June 7th or June 8th release date, if not sooner (you may want to stop by on Friday, just to check). Also, if you like what you see of Spirit Tracks, be sure to stop by Zelda Capital sometime next week for a special suprise.

E3 2009 - Nintendo Keynote Wrap-Up
02 Jun 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Today was day two of the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3. Yesterday Microsoft, EA, and Ubisoft all gave their keynote speeches. Today was Nintendo’s turn. Now, because this is a Zelda website, and we are all Zelda fans, you know what it was we were waiting for. Well let me say off the bat, that we didn’t get it. Not only did we not get the Wii Zelda that we have been hoping for for the past two years, we did not get any information or gameplay videos of the previously announced DS game: Spirit Tracks. All we as Zelda fans have to ride on is one comment made by Cammie Dunaway: “The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks - words can't do it justice.”

Oh and if you didn't get a chance to watch the video live, or don't feel like watching the whole hour, be sure to check out our live blog: a step by step guide as to what happened every minute of the conference.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZELDA CAPITAL!
21 May 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Well guys, today is it. Today is Zelda Capital's third birthday! *Whoo!* *Hooray!* Here comes the rambling...

Three years is actually a long time for a website, believe it or not. It's funny to me to think that I was in 8th grade when I started this all. Now I am just a year short of graduation, and Zelda Capital has grown larger than I ever could have imagined it would. We're getting 450-600 visitors daily, which may seem small next to some of our affiliates, but is a ridiculous in my mind for a site so young.

ZC has certainly grown a lot. We have come a long way from the good old days of the horrendous purple layout, and I'm proud of all that my many staff members and I have accomplished thus far. It has been a fun ride guys, so thanks for everything.

Thanks are due first and foremost to all of you. You guys are why I do this; I don't make any money from the site, so it's all for you guys. Thanks to everyone at the forums for keeping them alive. And thanks to all of the webmasters that have helped me along the way.

I know I always seem to write acceptance speeches on occasions like this so I'll keep this one short and I'll leave you with an update on the coming layout. YES I wanted to have the site layout as well as the forum layout done by today, but unfortunately school got in the way and I was unable to complete it on time. I am still working on it. I go away for my summer break June 14th, so it will definitely be done by then. Plus I have a 14 hour drive to work solely on the layout coming up. Look forward to it guys; it will be a good one.

In Nintendo news, E3 is rapidly approaching, taking place from June 2nd to June 5th. Stay tuned to Zelda Capital for all of the latest info!

To celebrate our birthday, here is a video made by our very own MidnasWolf:

Thanks again guys. It's been a great three years and I look forward to another year with all of you! Happy Birthday ZC!

Layout Update and Approaching Birthday!!!
04 May 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Hey ya'll. Just wanted to give you a heads up as to what's happening on my end of the site.

For starters, the layout is going well. I'm through the main page and the library and am working on the games. After that I just have the media pages and the ZCVC pages. The game pages are the hardest part, so I decided to tackle them early. After this layout, however, I won't have to go through every file anymore, as I'm coding it much better this time, and using PHP. You all will like it. Last Hylian is also working on a new news skin, and you can expect that to be quite epic.

Zelda Capital's 3rd birthday is rapidly approaching. I was hoping to have the layout done by that day, May 22nd, but as of now, it doesn't appear that I can get that done as well as the accompanying forum layout, so I'm not rushing it. However, when the layout does release, we will have a birthday party.

In the past people have done things for Zelda Capital's birthday. Whether it is fan art, an article, or something else, they are always exciting. If you would like to submit something to be posted for Zelda Capital's birthday, please send me an email at webmaster@zeldacapital.com, or post it on the forums in the stickied topic in the news board here.

That's all for now. I'll keep you posted as the layout progresses!

EDIT: Just so it's clear, Zelda Capital's birthday is May 22nd. I meant to say it was approaching. It isn't our birthday yet. Sorry for the confusion.

For those of you who frequent our Video Center, you may have noticed that some of the videos have been disabled. Here is a letter I received from Veoh that rather pissed me off:

So I'm sure you can see why I'm quite angry. The fact that the person chose only to select those cartoons as opposed to the other ones is beyond me, but I will try to find another solution. If you are still looking for them, they are up for download in our Video Center, but until further notice they are offline in the Veoh portion of our Video Center.

Zelda Dungeon Podcast Round 2
04 Apr 2009 - The King of Hyrule

Our good friends at Zelda Dungeon are gearing up for round two against the dreaded uStream.

If you visit Zelda Capital semi-frequently, you probably saw that I took part in a video podcast with Mases, webmaster of Zelda Dungeon, and a few other webmasters. We did a sort of round table-like discussion of the upcoming Zelda game Spirit Tracks. However, the live broadcast was cut short due to technical difficulties. Mases has decided to do another podcast tonight to make up for the wreckage last weekend, and he has asked me to be a guest once again. The podcast will be a normal one, but there will be an interview broken in there somewhere with myself on the topic of Zelda Capital. It is a must see for any Zelda Capital fan, so head on over to the Zelda Dungeon Forums to watch the podcast live. The podcast begins at 4 PM Central Time, 5 PM Eastern Time (26 minutes from the time of this post). Check it out and support Zelda Capital!

Reggie Fils-Aime Interview
02 Apr 2009 - The King of Hyrule

MTV Multiplayer recently sat down with Nintendo spokesperson Reggie Fils-Aime to discuss the new DSi. One of the topics that was touched on was Spirit Tracks:

MTV Multiplayer: What’s the DSi software landscape going to be like once the system is out? Will there be DSi-exclusive games? Will there be DS games that have DSi-exclusive features?

Reggie Fils-Aime, president, Nintendo of America: The short answer is “Yes.” There’s going to be both. Our expectation is that most of the content will be, call it, DSi-enhanced vs. DSi-exclusive. Why? One hundred-million installed base of DS. Developers are going to want to leverage that installed base and yet they’ll want to provide extra content via the features of the DSi, like the camera. That’s my expectation as to how it will play out.

MTV Multiplayer: You guys didn’t announce any hybrid games like that.

Fils-Aime: Correct.

MTV Multiplayer: “Zelda”? DSi-enhanced?

Fils-Aime: Wouldn’t that be nice?

MTV Multiplayer: Yeah. Now, when you guys were thinking of the subtitle for the new “Zelda” ["The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks"], did you start with my initials and go from there?

Fils-Aime: That was not the driver.

MTV Multiplayer: Ok. Because the "Halo 3” spin-off was originally “Halo 3: Recon.” They changed it to “Halo 3: ODST. And you guys? “The Legend of Zelda: ST”!

Fils-Aime: I have to say that, as we were doing all the naming, and working with NCL [Nintendo's Japanese main office], we were not in the background saying, “It’s gotta be Stephen Totilo somehow!”

MTV Multiplayer: It should be. But that’s a tentative title, right? So people shouldn’t get too attached to it?

Fils-Aime: Correct.

MTV Multiplayer: Can people assume that this game puts a new 2009 “Zelda” game on or off the table, because maybe there can’t be more than on new “Zelda” for the year?

Fils-Aime: What we’ve done is we’ve announced a great “Zelda” game for the DS — one I’m looking forward to. But reading anything more into that would be a mistake.

MTV Multiplayer: Have you had a chance to play it yet?

Fils-Aime: I did play a little bit of “Spirit Tracks.”

MTV Multiplayer: How is it?

Fils-Aime: I love it.

MTV Multiplayer: How does it compare to you as a player?

Fils-Aime: I’ll tell you what I love about it. It takes some of the things I liked about “Phantom Hourglass” to the next level. Example: I thought tracking the path of the boomerang was nice in “Phantom Hourglass.” But the way you use [the stylus] to solve puzzles with “Spirit Tracks” is really provocative. I think the “Zelda” fan will really enjoy it… You do more in tracking and outlining. We showed it in the trailer. You move [an extra] character to a spot in order to unlock puzzles. I really like that. I think it adds a level of gameplay which, for me, hearkens back to some of the classic “Zelda” puzzles.

MTV Multiplayer: If you can have trains in the “Zelda” universe, can you have planes in the “Zelda” universe? How advanced is this universe?

Fils-Aime: ["Zelda franchise director] Mr. Aonuma must answer those questions. I cannot answer those questions.

Take it as what you will fans. Nintendo has told us that you will be able to play Spirit Tracks on all of the DS systems, but there is always the possibility Nintendo will add in extra bonus content to ST that can only be unlocked on the DSi (similar to what they did in the Oracle games and the GameBoy Advance). Only time will tell. Read the rest of the interview here.

To pass said time, why not check out our new poll: will you buy the DSi? Please post your comments!

April Fool's Day Wrap-Up
01 Apr 2009 - The King of Hyrule
This April Fool's Day was a good one, as most every one of the Zelda websites out there participated in some form of joke. The announcement of Spirit Tracks couldn't have been more convenient, and was something that a lot of sites used as a joke.

For starters, as most of you know (except for Zeypherlink, apparently ), the post I made yesterday about Spirit Tracks being an April Fool's joke was, in fact, an April Fool's joke (the post - not the game). I think it successfully tricked two people (shoutout to Link Kinotira who was the first to actually "flip out" about it ), but overall was taken as a joke. The "source" I had was actually a post made over at ZeldaInformer, and multiple sites also linked to the post.

A number of other sites around the community participated in the April Fool's Day festivities as well. I'll run down some of the best.
  • LegendofZelda.com changed around their whole website to accommodate their new site direction: LegendofPokemon.com [screenshot]
  • ZeldaEurope as well as a few other European sites formed one large massive site dedicated to Spirit Tracks (as seen in their repeating train background and the conductor's cap place on Link's head) [screenshot]
  • Zelda Temple released "exclusive" photos of Spirit Tracks showing Link with Tingle (still viewable here)
  • Exploding Deku Nut, the humor website of the Zelda community took their comic series Accidentally Linked and devoted the entire website to it, changing the header and everything [screenshot]
  • My personal favorite: Zelda Universe changed their site also to reflect their new name: Train Universe, and they even went as far to change their logo to the head of Thomas the Tank Engine (choo choo!) [screenshot]
  • Hyrule.net updated with the box art of the "new Zelda Wii game" (you can view the box art here)
  • Finally, the epic IGN who always comes through for us on April Fool's gave us yet another video: a hardcore Super Smash Bros. Brawl game, a.k.a Brawl with blood. The video is really cool, and is worth watching, so check it out here
That's the best of the best in terms of April Fool's joke; except of course: the almighty Google, who announced their new CADIE service, a new form of AI. It was quite epic (save the panda-loving homepage of CADIE). Be sure to read up on it.

Also, for those interested, the "doomsday" virus Conficker that was supposed to hit yesterday did absolutely nothing, as of yet anyway. If anything huge hits I will update on it.

Another year down. I look forward to spend April Fool's with you guys next year. Peace!

Spirit Tracks News
31 Mar 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Good news guys! That horrible game with a train in it is no more! Thanks to a leak from a Nintendo worker, we were able to find out that Spirit Tracks was indeed a hoax. An excerpt from an email that was sent out reads as follows:

"I know I've b****ed to you quite a bit about some of the ideas the higher-ups around here have been going through with, but this Spirit Tracks debacle is by far the worst. You were right to assume it sounds fishy: The entire thing is a ruse. The heads decided that we needed something extremely ridiculous to draw attention away from Sony and Microsoft's announcements, so for some reason we're taking one of our most popular trademarks and tying it in with a product that doesn't exist for marketing exposure.

All that exists is a tech demo based on Phantom Hourglass that some interns tossed together. The worst thing is, somebody suggested "hey lets announce this is a joke on April 1st!." Not only did somebody suggest it, but a few others actually LIKED the idea. It's absolutely insane."

[Source]

There you have it. There is more to the email explaining the full situation as well as the promise of a future Zelda Wii game. Spirit Tracks - a.k.a. the game that never really existed - was all a cheap April Fool's Joke to give Nintendo more time to NOT give the Zelda community any new news. Sound like typical Nintendo to anyone?

Zelda Dungeon Podcast - Spirit Tracks
28 Mar 2009 - The King of Hyrule

As some of you may know if you follow our good friends over at Zelda Dungeon, they hold a bi-weekly live video podcast dedicated to all things Zelda. This week ZD is having a very special episode in light of the recent Spirit Tracks trailer. Mases, the webmaster, has gathered a bunch of webmasters from all around the community to have a kind of round table discussion about Spirit Tracks, as well as to answer fans' questions with any information we have.

The special thing? Mases has asked me to join in on the podcast! The podcast goes live in just about 35 minutes at 9:00 PM Central Time, or 10:00 PM Eastern Time. Please drop by the Zelda Dungeon Forums to view the podcast and hear our sure-to-be-amazing discussion!

EDIT: The podcast was a success, save a few large technical issues. I know many of you had trouble viewing it live, but don't worry, it has been recorded. The podcast in its entirety will be posted on Google Video hopefully sometime tomorrow, and it is definately worth checking out. I had a great time doing it, so thank you to Mases for hosting this and pulling us all together, as well as to Cody from Zelda Universe and The Missing Link, former webmaster of The Grand Adventures and Zelda Blog. I will post a link to the podcast when it is up!

New Spirit Tracks Videos
28 Mar 2009 - The King of Hyrule

Two analytical videos have been posted on IGN and GameTrailers.com covering the recently released Spirit Tracks trailer. The first from GameTrailers is a pop-up video in which the trailer has been modified to include special pop-ups that tell you information about the game that you may not have noticed. Enjoy!

The second video comes from IGN. This video jumps sporadically through the trailer while the commentators point out various new things revealed in this trailer. The nice part about this one is that the hosts narrate it, so there is no text to read. It is well done, but is not quite as complete as the first video.

Both of these videos will be added to the Spirit Tracks videos page, which I will add on hopefully tonight.

Just a quick note. . .
26 Mar 2009 - Last Hylian

Well. . . yeah. With the new Zelda being released at the end of this year, King of Hyrule asked if I'd step in to help with some of the news that's bound to be on it's way. So, yeah. I'll be dropping in every so often to pick up anything KOH misses. . . And that's pretty much all I have to say.

Cheers - Last Hylian

Grab Your Torch and Pitchforks
25 Mar 2009 - The King of Hyrule
For the first time in over a year, Nintendo has given us new information!

EDIT - I have completed the Spirit Tracks page, and all of the menus have been updated! Please check out our new Spirit Tracks game page here!

Earlier today at GDC 09, Nintendo revealed the first ever trailer for the latest Zelda handheld game: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.

Said to have the same structure as Phantom Hourglass, the working-title of the game shows what is different: Link will be on a train instead of a boat. The train will also have a cannon, just like Link did in Phantom Hourglass.

I know what you must be thinking, "A train Nintendo. Really? Is that the best you've got?" We'll... you're not alone. I, for one, am quite shocked, and rather disappointed. But don't worry too much: you will not be on the train all of the time. Nintendo demoed a few dungeons as well, which all seem to look like those from Phantom Hourglass with different textures. Impressive...

The new DS game will hit stores later this year (why they waited so long to give us new information I have NO idea). No new information on a console game was released, but Nintendo keynote speaker Bill Trinen had this to say before the announcement: "Try to stay away from ledges and sharp things for the rest of the day, Zelda fans."

Below is the first ever trailer released for this game (from Kotaku.com). Be sure to post and let us know what you think.

Also, just kind of an "I told you so," has anyone read my Modernization in Zelda article lately?

EDIT - With all of these posts, the Zelda Capital Forums have reached 10,000 posts! HOORAY! We have certainly come a long way from our humble beginnings, but thanks are due to many people for this achievement. Namely, thanks to Princess Zelda, Zane, and Hylian Hobbit for keeping the ZCF alive, even during the darkest of times. Congrats to everyone and keep on posting!

New Poll - GDC 09
22 Mar 2009 - The King of Hyrule
With the 2009 Game Developers Conference beginning tomorrow, Zelda fans are hoping for something big. The conference begins Monday, March 22, and ends this Friday, March 27. Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata will be speaking on Wednesday on the topic of how companies can introduce innovative ideas to gamers, but an appearance of Reggie Fils-Aime and Shigeru Miyamoto is expeted as well. We'll keep you updated here at Zelda Capital as news hits the fan.

In the mean time, check out our new poll: "What Will Nintendo Announce at GDC 09?"

Link's Awakening... 3D?
21 Mar 2009 - The King of Hyrule
You read right. A very devoted fan has taken the time to recreate Nintendo's Game Boy game Link's Awakening. The creator, MithosKuu, has finally, after a year's work, finished rendering the entire map of Koholint Island. The game is far from being completed, but a beta version is out. (I am downloading it now - I may post my impressions if it is well done.) From the teaser screenshots released a few days ago, the game looks quite impressive, to say the least. To check out the work of this extremely talented fan, visit his blog here. Here are some images to show you his work. Click to view the larger resolutions.

Zelda Capital Poll Center!
17 Mar 2009 - The King of Hyrule
As you probably have noticed, Zelda Capital now has a poll implemented nicely into the site directly to your right! These new polls will help me get feedback on site-related things as well as Zelda and Nintendo news.

This is something I have been wanting to do for a long time, but have never found a good enough program to do it. However, thanks to our new forums, I can take polls directly from the forums and post them on the main site. The polls are connected directly to the brand new Poll Center board on the Zelda Capital Forums. At the Poll Center, I will be posting a new poll weekly (hopefully - this may end up being longer, we'll see how it goes), at which point the site will then be updated with the new poll.

GUESTS CAN VOTE IN THESE POLLS! That's right. Even if you do not belong to the Zelda Capital Forums, you can still voice your opinion in these polls. However, in order to be able to post WHY you voted the way you did, you must register for free at the Zelda Capital Forums.

I hope you enjoy the polls, and please do vote in our very first poll: What do you think of the new Poll Center?

The Speed Gamers' Marathon...
16 Mar 2009 - The King of Hyrule
... is almost finished! As of right now, The Speed Gamers have been playing for 64 hours! Their goal is to beat all of the Zelda games (well, all 13 of them) within 72 hours. They are raising money for a charity called Ally's House, and are sitting just short of $4,500. They hope to raise $6,000 for charity, so if you would like to help them reach that goal you can donate at their site: here.

For now, here is a video of what they are currently playing. From the time of this post, The Speed Gamers were playing Phantom Hourglass.

  • Webmaster Talk now sub-forum of Fan Websites/Forums
  • Fan Games/Puzzles removed
  • Glitch Exploration now a sub-forum in Anything Else
  • Non-Nintendo Game Talk now a main board
  • A graveyard board has been added to which old locked topics will be added; sort of like an archive
  • The shop has been removed; it served no real purpose
These new features hopefully will bring some more life to our forums. As I mentioned in a previous post, with the new forum comes changes in staff and moderation here at Zelda Capital. In terms of forum moderation, our community  is not that larger (but it is growing!) and has always been very personal, so we have never had a real problem with rule breaking. But recently I have been getting more and more reported posts, and spam and one-word posts have become more common on our beloved boards. Therefore I have chose to appoint a new moderator: Hylian Hobbit. He will be watching over the forums and keeping a handle on things; so spammers beware.

For the change in staff, obviously content updates have been slow around here. Since Sage Raziel's disappearance, we have not had an active staffer. Knowing that, I am happy to introduce KingHyrule64. KingHyrule64 will be writing content for us, including articles and guides and more. Eventually, he will be posting news as well (providing we ever get any news). If you wish to get to know him, visit our staff page followed by our forums!

On a side note, we have three new link buttons that you should check out. I made one a while ago and am just now posting it, and the two others were made by Evelyn Jade, webmistress of Zelda Europe, an affiliate of ours. They are definitely worth looking at (both the buttons and Zelda Europe).

My next project will be finishing up the Video Center, and I will update with that when I am done. In the meantime, why not check out our awesome revamped forums?

Forums to be Down
02 Mar 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Thanks goes out to Mother Nature for making it snow like crazy here (I think we have like 8 inches of snow - and it's still snowing), because I have off today. If you have visited our forums recently, you would have heard talk of a new version. In order to upgrade to this new forum system, I have to take the forums offline to make sure all of the settings are correct. So some time tonight, most likely around 7 or 8 o'clock, the forums will go offline so I can upgrade them. I will also be making some changes in terms of staff and moderation, so check back for that. I will make a post after I have completed the update.

EDIT: Surprise, surprise. The forum upgrade deleted some of the images and messed with some of my custom work. Stupid technology. I will continue to work on the forums until about 11 tonight, but they will not be completed tonight. So basically, the forums will remain offline tomorrow as well. I will keep you all updated as the progress moves on.

Zelda Capital Presents...
22 Feb 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Well, as many of you know, I have been working on a project that has been a long time coming. And, well, it has been a long time.

Today I am proud to bring to you the Zelda Capital Video Center! Almost two months in the making, what started as an attempt to add game commercials to Zelda Capital has turned into a massive undertaking that is still not quite complete. The Video Center contains over 70 videos as of tonight, with 30 or so more to still be added., making it the largest fan-site collection of Zelda videos on the web. Containing everything from Zelda commercials, the Zelda cartoons, rare Zelda videos, and more, the Zelda Capital Video Center has something for everybody.

The Zelda Capital Video Center is divided into two parts: the first part is located on Veoh, and the second part is right here on Zelda Capital. The first part is, for lack of a better word, the player end. It is an interface similar to YouTube, where you can watch all of the videos from Zelda Capital. The second part is the download end. As you have probably guessed, it is where you can download each and every video found on the player end.

The site-side Video Center is separated into categories according to video type, which mirrors the Veoh Video Center. Listed below are the links to the videos found on Zelda Capital. On each page you will find a link to download them, as well as a link to their location on the Veoh Video Center, where you can comment on them, rate them, and even download them to your iPod!

If you would like to stay up-to-date on the latest videos we upload, you can sign up for a free account on Veoh and subscribe to our channels! (Or you can become our friend - we like friends.)

I still have videos that need to be uploaded to Veoh, and I will do that eventually. Also, on the site-side part of the ZCVC, I have still to compile the game trailers page, as it is huge at this point, and I wanted to get this project out soon. Much work is still to be done, but I think everyone will like what has been done so far.

There are currently five categories of videos: The first is the Zelda Cartoon Series. Though we used to have the infamous Zelda cartoons on Zelda Capital before this, there are now embedded videos so you can watch the cartoon before you download it, and I have added higher quality versions of all of the cartoons. The second is Game Promotional Videos & Trailers, which is just a fancy name for game trailers and commercials. This section is quite full of almost every trailer and commercial released for the Zelda series, including ones released in Japan and Europe. The third category is Rare Zelda Videos. Currently there are only two rare Zelda videos: long documentary videos that were released only in Japan. The fourth section consists of the Twilight Princess Cutscenes, and is a collection of every cutscene from Twilight Princess, all very good quality. The fifth and final category is Zelda 64 Trailers, consisting of all of the videos I could find on YouTube and any other site that deal with the early form of Ocarina of Time.

All five of the categories have a listing on ZC, where you can watch them and download them at your leisure. If you like them, you can head over the Veoh page and post comments on them, and rate them.

If you look in the right navigation at the bottom, you will find a new section devoted to the Video Center, containing all of the links to the content.

Quickly, let me just say that in an earlier news post I said that the project had spanned across three different websites. Currently, the third website is giving me problems, so I have decided to ditch it for now until I have more time to set it up.

I hope you all like the Zelda Capital Video Center. It has been a large journey on my part, and I hope it will become an integral part of Zelda Capital. If you have any videos that you feel should be added to the Zelda Capital Video Center, please use our contact page to let me know! I would love and appreciate all feedback.

Yea Yea Yea...
19 Feb 2009 - The King of Hyrule
So I know I've haven't been around much. This week has been brutal in terms of school, and I'm playing catch-up due to the two days I missed last week, which I spent in Washington DC. The weekend was great fun, but was also very long. I got home Sunday night. Between Sunday and Monday I had to write two A.P. English papers, a portion of my research paper, and had to study for four tests - two of which were make-up tests. Yea, brutal.

But here comes the weekend, and I plan to get some things posted. For starters, we have some site updates, in terms of staff, coming soon. I have just been too lazy to post them . The secret project I have been working on has turned into this HUGE thing. It is now spanning three websites, and is taking FOREVER to compile and write. The longest part is just the formatting, as it is tedious and extensive. I will keep you updated, but I plan to release one of the three parts soon, and the following two parts in the next few weeks. I'm very excited, and you guys will be too when you see it (no Princess Zelda - it is not the RPG - sorry).

And don't worry: it is worth waiting for. You'll see soon enough. Until then, sayonara!

EDIT: Also, Nintendo announced today that they will release the Nintendo DSi, the successor to the Nintendo DS, in North America on April 5th! The DSi will retail at $169.99 USD in two colors: matte black and matte blue. We'll keep you up to date.

The Fifth Annual Golden Item Awards
02 Feb 2009 - The King of Hyrule
The Fifth Annual Golden Item Awards are finally here! As a former GIA winner ourselves, we highly encourage your participation! A quote from EDN:

"Site and Zelda updates may have been absent of late but I hope you didn't think we would forget about this. It's February 1st and that means it's nomination time for Exploding Deku Nut's 2009 Golden Item Awards!

These awards are given annually by Exploding Deku Nut to Zelda sites that excel in uniqueness, design, aspiration, interactivity and for lifetime achievement. The Golden Item Awards are not vote based, so a site will not win by shear influx of votes. Rather the nomination process draws my attention to sites that I may miss in my own rounds of evaluation.

The award categories are:

The Golden Deku Nut for Most Unique Site
The Golden Bomb Plant for Most Stunning Site
The Golden Ocarina for Most Aspiring Site
The Golden Light Arrow for Most Lively Forums
and The Golden Mirror Shield for Lifetime Achievement

To nominate a Zelda site please fill out the form found here: http://www.explodingdekunut.net/interactive/giamain.html

You may nominate any Zelda site, including past winners, for any number of awards. You may also nominate as many sites as you wish. You can also check out the previous winners in each of the categories.

Nominations close February 28th and the winners will be announced on March 1st."

Please go support EDN and represent Zelda Capital in these awards. We would certainly love a nomination .

New News, Content Revamping, Google Themes, and Site Reviews!
26 Jan 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Not much in terms of content, but I wanted to update and let you all know a few things.

First off, I'm sure you have all heard all of the Zelda rumors floating around, mainly about a Triforce-looking countdown (proven false), and a patent that looks like it could belong to a Zelda game, and I'm sure you've been wondering why we have not been updating about it. However, this is going to change. I always kind of figured that you'd read about that stuff on any other site, but since updates are so slow, I figured I'd start updating about all the random Zelda "news" out there. Expect that soon.

Second, I'm going to be going through our content and fixing it all up (I mentioned this last post). Adding pictures, updating content, etc. For starters, I have finally updated the legal info, on both the legal page and the copyright footer. Secondly, I added music to accompany the notes on the Ocarina of Time Music Notes page. More to come.

Third, a popular Zelda-like iGoogle theme has spread throughout the net. I currently have it set as my Google theme and you should to! Check it out here.

Finally, Zelda Capital has been reviewed by our affiliate Zelda-Portal! We have received a 3.9 out of 5! It's not amazing, but it's not terrible either! We certainly still have a long way to go, but we're making progress! You can read the review here.

Anyway, let me just say thank you, the fans, for making Zelda Capital what it is. I hope you enjoy the site and the new updates, and look forward to the project, coming soon!

That is all.

Updated Radio, New Affiliate, and No More Snow
21 Jan 2009 - The King of Hyrule
No that I've got some time on my hands, I've been able to perform some of the updates to the site that I have been wanting to do for a while now. Many of them are just coding changes, some image fixes, and positioning on both text and images. I am not done yet, but I'm making good progress.

In other news, I have finally gotten around to updating the Zelda Radio from ZO Radio to WZMR Radio. WZMR took over ZO Radio a long time ago, but I never updated the page. The radio broadcasts Zelda tunes, podcasts, radio shows, and more, and it is worth a visit. Check out how to listen here.

We also have a new affiliate: Zelda Legacy. Zelda Legacy is a long-standing, well-respected Zelda site that has been offline for quite some time now. However, Killswitch, the owner, has completely redone the site. Not only has he created a new layout, but he has also coded his own CMS (called LegacyCMS - soon to be available to the public), forums, and publishing system (which I may try to implement into Zelda Capital in the near future). I was given the priviledge to beta test the CMS, and it is all very impressive. The new site should be online within the next few days, at which point we will let you know. In the meantime, an offline page is available for your viewing pleasure here.

Finally, I have done away with the snow effect on both the main site and the forum. From the feedback, it sounds like you all enjoyed our snowy theme, and had fun smashing those annoying lights. You can expect them back a year from now . I hope you all had a nice holdiay season, and I look forward to celebrating it with again in a year.

That's it for today. A long update yes, but it is leading up to a rather large one (no, not a new layout - not yet). A project I have been working on for some time now is almost complete and I am very excited. Look forward to it. Later.

Widgets and Affiliates!
16 Jan 2009 - The King of Hyrule
Long time no new section! I would like to present to you the Zelda Capital Widgets! Yes, these are the result of my messing around in a simple WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) flash editor, but they are fun to create. I have decided to make a few of them for Zelda Capital, and the first one can be found here. It is a simple news widget that updates as the news on Zelda Capital updates. I may update it and make it a bit more professional looking later, but for now it is just a start. So check that out here, and I will update the page constantly with my new "inventions."

Also, we have a new affiliate! Hyrulian War, a website that just underwent massive reconstruction, has reopened! It is a large play-by-post RPG text game and is a ton of fun if you are a fan of turn-based RPG. Check them out, and tell them the King sent you (an olden-days references - Zelda Capital veterans know where it's at ).

That's all for today. Here's wishing for some new Zelda news within the next ten years!

New Article!
04 Jan 2009 - The King of Hyrule

No, not my article, but a fan contributed article.

Zelda fan Jim has sent in his article to Zelda Capital, entitled "Zelda's World: How New Settings Improve the Game We Love", Jim's article is an in-depth read about real settings that have influenced Zelda in one way or another. It is a very well-written article and worth the read if you are interested in finding out about the influences of everyone's favorite Zelda games.

You can read the article here, and if you are interested in contributing an article please visit here.

Thanks again Jim!

What Better Way to Say Merry Christmas...
25 Dec 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Happy holidays all! Obviously we here at Zelda Capital have been celebrating the winter season with the obvious site-wide decorations, but we have had nothing for the fans. So today I would like to introduce to you the Zelda Capital Arcade!

As requested by our forum members, and arcade has been installed on the forums! I have loaded it up with just shy of 80 games, the most notable being Tetris, Donkey Kong, and Duck Hunt. The program records your scores and keeps track of the highest scoring member. So go check it out here, and be aware that you need at least 5 posts on the forums to play the games! So go ahead, begin posting and playing!

Oh, and Happy Holidays!/Merry Christmas!/Whatever you call it!

The Next Zelda Game
18 Dec 2008 - The King of Hyrule

I'm sure you've seen this on other Zelda websites by now, but hey, better late than never, right? Anyways, recently, a gaming news site called MonsterVine compiled a list of things we know about the coming Zelda game. Based off of YouTube videos uploaded by a fan, the post covers everything we know thus far (which still isn't much), and is, sadly, a short read.

You can give it a read over here, and comment about it on our forums via the link below.

Article 3 - Day 3
11 Dec 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Finally, tonight I bring you the concluding article to Zelda Capital's 3 Articles - 3 Days, Zelda Capital's tribute to Ocarina of Time's tenth anniversary.

Ten years ago today, Ocarina of Time was originally released in Europe. Our article, entitled Ocarina  relives Ocarina of Time's glory days with a look at what it achieved score-wise at its release, and where it stands now with the scores and reviews. I must say that this article was the funnest to write out of the three. As the other two were kind of rushed, as this whole project was a last minute thing, the extra time I had to write this one up was very nice. I must say that the previous two articles in this series should have had a few more re-writes, but this one, in my opinion, is quite nice. But don't take my word for it. Check it out here.

This third article marks the ending of our commemoration series. I have not yet decided whether or not I will do an ending write-up, but chances are that the new Animal Crossing game will keep me too busy . It was a fun run, and reminded me how much I love to write articles. After all, that's why I opened Zelda Capital in the first place, so expect some more of those, as well as a Mech soon, if Sage ever decides to surface and send me the work.

Until then, please enjoy the new article, and if you have missed a past article you can find the links and all the information you need here.

The Holiday Season is Upon Us!
09 Dec 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Season's greetings from Zelda Capital!

Just as every year, I have gone ahead and started up our snow program. However, there are two new options for the snow this year: change wind and turn snow off. These two options can be found in the "What's New" box on each page. With them you can do exactly what they say: change the direction the snow is falling, and turn it off if it is causing your browser to become too slow. The snow is on every page, and you will soon find it on the home page of the forums as well.

This year we have a new feature to celebrate the holidays: destroyable holiday lights! Tired of those pesky holiday lights all over the place?! DESTROY THEM! Give it a shot; it's fun. Trust me . The holiday lights are located only on the main site home page though, as they slow things down quite a bit, but they sure are fun to play with.

So please have a happy holiday season, and be sure to pick up your favorite Zelda game over the break and give it a whirl, then drop by Zelda Capital and talk it up over on the forums! Happy holidays!

EDIT: We have a new affiliate: Zelda Universe! If you know anything about the Zelda community at all, you know why they are, but if you don't: Zelda Universe is the largest Zelda fan site around. With a stunning layout and a MASSIVE forum community, they are worth more than a little bit of your time. Drop on by!

The Hero of Time
03 Dec 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Two days ago, I received an email from BMB Finishes containing a press release about the up-and-coming fan film production The Hero of Time. If you have been following the Zelda fan site Legends and Adventures, I'm sure you have seen news of a Zelda fan movie that has been in production for quite a long time. That fan movie has finally reached post-production stages and a website has been released as well as a trailer for the movie. (I'm sorry to the powers that be for posting this release so late, but when I first received the email I was unsure what to make of it. However, seeing as how other sites are now posting it, I figured I should post it as well.)

Click "Read More" to see the official release and the images as well as the logo.

New Subscription Options
26 Nov 2008 - The King of Hyrule

So with all of the constant updates to Zelda Capital, what is the best way to stay in the loop? RSS. RSS is not a new feature to Zelda Capital, but it has been moved to a new place. The RSS is now being fed through a program called FeedBurner, which lets me track how many people are subscribed to the feed. This means that if you were previously subscribed, you need to re-subscribe. You can view the new feed here.

The feed now looks much nicer in browsers like Safari and Google Chrome, and there are many more subscription options. You can now subscribe using tons of different RSS programs, like Google, Yahoo, Bloglines, NewsGator, and many more. There are now special links at the bottom of each post that allow you to email the stories, Digg them, seed them on Newsvine.com, bookmark it with Google, and post it to Facebook, just to name a few. Overall, the feed looks much better and cleaner, and is worth subscribing to if you have not already.

Also, worthy of note is our new Receive Email Updates program. You can now submit your email via the form on this page, which will cause an email to be sent to you each time a new news post is posted. The email will contain the update, in similar fashion to what an RSS feed. You can view more on this new service here.

That's all I have for you. Please be sure to check out the new and improved Zelda Capital News RSS Feed here, and be sure to subscribe. Thinking of subscribing but don't have an RSS program? I recommend Bloglines. It's free and easy, and best of all, its all online, meaning no downloads.

Article 2 - Day 2
23 Nov 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Today I am proud to release to you the second installment in our 3 Articles - 3 Days tribute to Ocarina of Time. Today is the tenth anniversary of Ocarina of Time's release in North America, and with it comes the second article, entitled "Can Ocarina of Time be Topped?" The article questions whether or not Ocarina of Time can be topped, using the fact that almost every modern game in one way or another contains derivatives from Ocarina of Time. It was a fun one to write and is a fun read, so give it a glance right here.

Look forward to the third and final article in our series on December 11th, the release date of Ocarina of Time in Europe. Yes I know it is a long way off, but there is plenty going on both here at Zelda Capital and all around the community to keep you entertained until then.

You can still view the first article here, as well as the overview page of the entire project here. I'm sorry I'm so late in posting this one, but I just got home around 6:30, and had some homework to do. Enjoy!

Ten Years Ago Today...
21 Nov 2008 - The King of Hyrule

On November 21, 1998, debatably the greatest and most influential game of all time was first released in Japan. Today marks the tenth anniversary of the launch of Ocarina of Time, and Zelda Capital intends to honor the anniversary by releasing three articles over the course of the three days Ocarina of Time was originally released in its main three regions: Japan, North America, and Europe.

The project has taken the name 3 Articles - 3 Days, and today I bring you the first of the three articles. The article is called “Why We Love Ocarina of Time,” and goes through the details of Ocarina of Time’s success, and why it was such a popular and monumental game. This first article is the first of three to come, and each will deal with an aspect of Ocarina of Time from a view of the game ten years later.

Check out the article here, or visit the project’s home page here. Enjoy, and look forward to the next article, coming Sunday, November 23, the tenth anniversary of the release of Ocarina of Time in North America.

Also, legendary Zelda Universe staffer TSA has found and translated a rare Japanese Ocarina of Time Promo video. In the video the narrator (Navi minus the annoying voice) guides the viewer through Ocarina of Time, and, among other things, covers part of the plot and the essential storyline. The video also includes a rare excerpt from an interview with Zelda-mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto. It is interesting to see, and I know it is going to be very popular, as did TSA, and he graciously gave other sites the permission to post it as well. Enjoy!

3 Articles - 3 Days
19 Nov 2008 - The King of Hyrule

I am proud to announce Zelda Capital's new project:

3 Articles - 3 Days
A Legend Ten Years In The Making

This Friday marks the tenth anniversary of the Japanese release of Ocarina of Time, and to commemorate this special date, Zelda Capital has put together a project in which we will release three Ocarina of Time-related articles on the three original releases dates of Ocarina of Time. For more, visit our special page dedicated to the project here. You can also find the link on our left navigation and in the "Latest News" info box at the top of each page.

Also note, the Mech will not be released this weekend due to the first article being released this Friday. The schedule for the Mechs will resume next week.

Edit: If anyone would like to contribute an article or a piece of content to honor Ocarina of Time, please feel free to send it my way and it will be posted with proper credit.

Weekly Mech Update #5
13 Nov 2008 - The King of Hyrule

After much scrambling on our parts here I am to bring you the fifth addition to Zelda Capital's ever-growing Mech library: the A Link to the Past Mech. *Woo!* *Cheers!*

The Mech home page has been updated, but for those of you looking for more details, you can check out Sage's Mech discussion thread on the Zelda Capital Forums. While you're there, why not join?

Look forward to next weeks Mech: The Legend of Zelda Mech.

Weekly Mech Update #4
07 Nov 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Well it certainly has been a long time coming, but the Twilight Princess Mech is finally here! This one is bit longer than the rest, but is worth the read. The Twilight Princess Mech is the fourth addition to the Mech Library, and more are coming soon.

Again, both Sage and I apologize for the delay. The Mechs are back on schedule, and you can look forward to the next Mech: A Link to the Past, coming next Thursday, 11/13.

Missing Mech Excuse
03 Nov 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Alright so as you know a Game Mech was not posted this past Thursday like I had originally planned. Why? Well, life happens. As it turns out, personal things got in the way, and Sage wasn't able to send me the Mech. As a result, the Twilight Princess Mech that was supposed to be posted this past Thursday will be posted on Friday, and every one after that will be posted in the same fashion: once a week.

Both Sage and I apologize for the mix up, and hopefully you'll check back on Friday for the Twilight Princess Mech.

Weekly Mech Update #3
25 Oct 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Here I am for round three of our Mech updates. This time: The Wind Waker Mech. This Mech goes into the details of not only the development of The Wind Waker, but also the development of the GameCube system, which actually played a large role in the making of The Wind Waker. Read the new Mech here.

Also, I went through and updated the Game Mech page. This time around I added a schedule for the next three week's Mech posts. The schedule includes what Mech will be posted and the tentative date they will be up. Take a look when you get a chance.

Enjoy the new stuff! Next week's Mech: Twilight Princess.

Voice Acting
22 Oct 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Well, it's about time I posted a new article around here. This one was acutally posted on Zelda Blog for a short time before its sudden closure. To read more about that check out our articles home page, where I explain the situation in greater detail.

This new article deals with voice acting in the Legend of Zelda games. Lots of talk has been floating around as to what will appear in the next Zelda game, and one of the largest factors mentioned has been voice overs for the characters. This article explores the pros and cons of voice acting, and is a fun read (and was actually quite fun to write). So go check it out here.

Weekly Mech Update #2
16 Oct 2008 - The King of Hyrule

This week I present to you the Majora's Mask Mech. This one is quite interesting and is worth the read. I know I told you I would be updating each weekend, and yet I'm updating on a Thursday. The reason being this weekend is Homecoming Weekend at my school, so I am busy all tomorrow and all Saturday, so I didn't want to update late. So here it is.

Look forward to next week's Game Mech: The Wind Waker.

New Staff & New Section
07 Oct 2008 - The King of Hyrule

After almost two weeks of reading application after application, I have finally selected one fan to become a member of the Zelda Capital team. Please welcome Sage Raziel. Sage Raziel will help me with the content writing, especially with game content and such. To learn more about him be sure to check out his profile on the Staff page.

Along with Sage Raziel comes his new content! Sage writes these things, very unique and original things, called Mechs. A Mech is basically details about the game involving its production and development and other such info. He joins Zelda Capital with an Ocarina of Time Mech, which can be found in our new Game Mechs section, located in our Library.

The reason I have decided to open up a new section for these Game Mechs rather than just post them in each game's page is that Sage will be writing a new one each week; one for each game. Ocarina of Time marks the first of a bunch of Mechs and I will post each new Mech towards the end of every week until we have a compeleted collection.

Please enjoy now Sage Raziel's Ocarina of Time Mech, and be sure to drop by the forums to welcome him to the team!

Also, be on the lookout for next week's Mech: Majora's Mask.

Thanks again to everyone who sent in applications.

New DS Model Revealed
02 Oct 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Rumors have been circulating for quite some time now about the release of a new DS model, but no one could have prepared us for what Nintendo revealed today:

The DSi. The next generation DS model. Adapting new technology such as a SD card slot for MP3s and such, larger screens, and a .3 megapixel camera (complete with a Nintendo image editing program), the new DSi exceeded expectations.

With the new hardware enhancements, Nintendo took the best software of their latest hit, the Nintendo Wii, and applyed it to the DSi. Introducing DSWare. A store similar to the Wii Shop, it allows users to purchase what they're calling "Nintendo Points" and then use them to download various items. The new model with also come with a built-in browsing system, probably used to browse the DSWare.

Sadly, due to the SD card slot and the attempt to make it even more smaller (the DSi is about 12% thinner than the DSLite), the slot for the GameBoy Advance games has been abolished.

The Nintendo DSi is set for launch on November 1st, 2008 for what is approximately $180 USD. Release in other regions has not been announced yet, but stayed tuned to Zelda Capital, and we'll keep you posted.

Zelda Comics
27 Sep 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Yes I know we already have Zelda Comics, but today I took the time to go through and reformat our comics page. It is much more cleaner and easy to read, seperated with new pictures and better table layouts. I have also added one new item: the children's book The Legend of Zelda: Moblin's Magic Spear. It's 23 new pages available for your viewing pleasure, and you can download the entire book in one shot. Be sure to check it out.

Be on the lookout for a new article from myself and the installment of our new staff member(s). Coming soon.

Staff Needed
20 Sep 2008 - The King of Hyrule

As is clearly evident, the whole Zelda community is at a stand still. With no new news to post, it has been hard to keep up activity on Zelda Capital. Therefore I have wanted to write some content to post on the site. However, with school started, I can only write so much.

I am looking for one person to become a new DEDICATED content writer for Zelda Capital. I have had way too many staff members come and go and am looking for one I can count on. I don't have a set number of pieces of content I require, but I would like a few submissions, lets say, per month. (Tentative.)

If you think you can handle it, please shoot me an email at webmaster@zeldacapital.com. (Label the subject "Staff Application.") I have to request that all applicants be at least 15, with a 10th grade level of writing.

Please include:

  • Your real name (first name is okay)
  • Your age
  • School year (9th, 10th, 11th...)
  • A screenname (AIM, MSN, ICQ, etc. [I have them all])
  • One piece of content as an example of your writing (won't be posted unless you are accepted).
  • Explain to me why you think you are fit for a content writer position at Zelda Capital.

That's about it for now. I may think of more later. Send me an email if your interested. Thanks guys.

God Forbid I Actually Post an Update...
15 Sep 2008 - The King of Hyrule

New content!?!?! *gasp*

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I've heard it all. Many people think I died. Well I have some new content for you. Twenty new MIDIs have joined our collection. And these are not just any MIDIs. These are fan-made MIDIs from CRAZEDMANIAC, a dedicated, and very talented fan. His entire collection of MIDIs can now be viewed in a special fan section of our MIDI Library. Are you interested in adding your custom MIDIs to our library? Feel free to send them my way in an email and they will be posted and credited.

Second on the list is one of our affiliates, The Temple Ruins, is no longer. No, they have not gone offline. They have simply changed their name to Zelda Relic, and can be found at a new domain name. Just a heads up.

So that's it for now. Hopefully news will pick up soon. Hopefully we'll get some news on a new Zelda game. *crosses fingers*

Musical Affiliates
26 Aug 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Well... make whatever you want of the title.

Two new things for today. First off: I have gone through the affiliates list and cleaned out the dead links, as well as added one new affiliate. Nintendo Extreme is a growing website dedicated to all things Nintendo, specifically Mario. They have a very sleek layout and look quite promise. Feel free to drop in.

Second: a very special, talented, fan of Zelda Capital has used some of Zelda Capital's sheet music to create a piano medly of Zelda and Mario music. Check out the links to the YouTube videos on our Sheet Music page.

That's all for today. Sorry for the recent inactivity. However, the forums are quite active (which is... odd).

P.S. I have NO idea what a musical affiliate is.

Hooray!
11 Aug 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Earlier than expected, I am back. I am still catching up on missed news - both large and community wide - so give me some time. Not much was posted while I was gone, and the forums are pretty much dead. I'll get on top of that.

Nothing new has happened to Zelda Capital except for our two new affiliates: Realms of Hyrule and Zelda Fan Game Central. Be sure to give them a visit. I'll try to update tomorrow with new stuff.

Not Back Yet...
19 Jul 2008 - The King of Hyrule

But getting there. I have decided to stay at my camp for four more weeks, meaning I will be coming back on August 17th. This will be my first and last chance to update until then so I just want to quick say hi and let you know I'm still alive.

Nothing much is going on that hasn't been covered in the news. The legendary Zelda Power has a new layout, that is very nice, very green . We also have four new Did You Know? facts, submitted by Clark that are worth checking out. Finally, we have one new affiliate: Zelda Portal. They are a site that focuses on compiling a list of the many Zelda sites online nowadays and even reviewing many of them. They are very interesting and original and are worth a visit.

That's all I have for now. I hope you guys have a fun rest of the summer. I will be back in four weeks. Later.

E3 2008: Miyamoto Confirms Wii and DS Zelda in Development
16 Jul 2008 - Zeypherlink
Although there was no real confirmation of a new Zelda title at Nintendo's E3 Conference this year, IGN sat down with Shigeru Miyamoto and asked him some questions concerning Zelda's future.

"The Zelda team in particular always works on Zelda titles. The core members of the Zelda team have for a very long time now been focused on Zelda games, and continue to focus on Zelda games, so they are hard at work and working away," Miyamoto said. "And then, of course, we have the DS Zelda team as well, so even there we're having some switching of people in and out where the DS team is mixing in with the Wii team and working on the Wii version."

"I don't necessarily think it will change that drastically, but I think that Zelda is a franchise that does need some big new unique ideas," he said. "And so the team right now is very focused on trying to find those ideas."

He also suggested that there will be some unique fundamental changes to the series. What are they? We'll have to wait and see.

E3 Nintendo Conference
15 Jul 2008 - Zeypherlink
Just incase you missed the E3 Nintendo Conference, I'm here to fill you in...although you really didn't miss much at all.
No new Zelda was announced, and ontop of that, none of the "core" titles Reggie promised were shown, unless you call Animal Crossing, Wii Music, Wii Sports 2, and other casual games "core".

Oh well, perhaps we'll get something good next year.

Discuss on our Forum!

Goodbye For Now...
22 Jun 2008 - The King of Hyrule

As many of you probably know, I have a busy summer planned, and will be without computer access for the next couple of weeks.

Have no fear, though, for I have arranged for the site to remain updated, especially during E3 2008 (July 15-17). All of the latest news will be covered here at Zelda Capital, as it always has been in the past, and I will be sure to cover anything missed when I return (around July 20th). While I am away, all news will be handled by Zeypherlink, webmaster of Zelda Adventures (home of a brand new layout), and Last Hylian, staff member of Exploding Deku Nut. The forums will be managed by 56K Warning, so no worries there.

I hope all of you have a fine summer, and I will miss Zelda Capital during my 4+ week brake. Try to keep Zeypherlink in line . See you in a few weeks.

Also, commenting has been reopened. Unfortunately, because I could not get the anti-spam system to work, I have had to limit commenting to registered users only. To register, please click here.

To Zelda Capital Staff Members - Look for a PM on the forums letting you know all the final details.

My Summer Vacation
19 Jun 2008 - The King of Hyrule

So where have I been? That's a good question...

Well for starters, the site isn't dead. That's for sure. Our forums are quite active and it's a great time to join. I haven't really been working on any new content, because I have been really busy.

Why have I been so busy? I have landed a job as a couselor at a summer camp for the next three or so weeks. It was originally planned that I would be at the training week this whole week, then come back for two days, before heading off to wrestling camp, then back to summer camp for three weeks. My plans never seem to work out though. I hurt my knee wrestling a few weeks ago, and it began to swell up while I was working, and I was taken to the emergency room to have it drained. I am now bedridden for a few days, so I have time to update, and get things ready for my weeks away.

The site is being watched over by two good friends of mine, the news will be handled by Zelda Adventures webmaster Zeypherlink (the time I am gone, E3 takes place, so he will update with all of the latest news), and the forums will be watched over by 56K Warning. I expect the site to remain active and will open the comments back up soon enough.

Depending on what the doctors tell me about my knee, I may or may not be here for another week, and I may end up being gone longer then expected, but that is not likely. So enjoy the new leadership while it lasts.

I'll try to update one last time before I leave.

Music, Hearts, and More
31 May 2008 - The King of Hyrule

I hope everyone likes the new layout. I have been ironing out some of the code on my end, and fixing some pages on yours.

While I was busy doing that, our staff and fans have been working on new content to go with the new site. The first thing we have is acutally a fix. A fan by the name of Donny notified me of the fact that one of our music PDFs was missing, and I looked into it and found about six others also missing. I have fixed all those and they can be viewed on our sheet music page.

Second is a nice heart container guide for Phantom Hourglass written by Fierce Deity Link. Each container is clearly defined as well as how to obtain it.

Finally, we have four new Did You Know? facts, two submitted by Princess Zelda and the other two by Riley.

Enjoy!

Edit: commenting has been disabled due to spam. It shouldn't be this way for much longer, I just have to install an anti-spam system. I'll post when this problem is solved.

Welcome to Version Six
26 May 2008 - The King of Hyrule

Welcome to Zelda Capital Version Six. Loosely based on Majora’s Mask, this layout, in my opinion anyway, is a large leap forward visually from version five. I know I usually release a whole bunch of new features with each new layout, but this time I have actually gotten rid of some.

The major one: the forum integration. It just didn’t serve the purpose that I had thought it would. All of the forum scripts have been removed from the main website, including the news we were using. I have switched back to CuteNews in order to give all of those people that aren’t registered on the forums the ability to post comments. The news template is also much more customizable, which I will be fixing up in the near future.

Another cool feature of using CuteNews is the ability to use RSS. RSS is a very simple way to keep up-to-date with all of the news posted on Zelda Capital. You can view our RSS feed page here.

Each page is also smaller in size. This means faster loading times, and more bandwidth for us. The images are no longer large PNG files, but are now smaller, more compact, JPG files. The quality is relatively the same, and no one will notice the difference. On the subject of size, the content area of version six is much bigger compared to that of version five, allowing for smaller pages and more text.

On the terms of new content, we have a wonderfully done walkthrough for Ocarina of Time from Fierce Deity Link. Check that out on our Ocarina of Time page.

The release of this layout also marks a very special occasion: Zelda Capital’s second anniversary. Our actual birthday was last Thursday, May 22nd. This is a great honor, and many sites probably never reach this point. I owe thanks to everyone really. Zeypherlink: for all your site/forum help and feedback. 56K: for your opinions and help with the forums and main site. My cousin geck0killer: for your ideas and photoshop demos. LastHylian: for your help with CuteNews. And Princess Zelda: for keeping the Zelda Capital Forums alive.

So I hope you enjoy the new layout. Before I finish though I need to give a very very large thanks to Chance from LoZ.com. This layout would not look nearly as good as it does if not for his help. A lot of the styling came from Chance and his ideas, and the navigation links were done completely by Chance. So if you see him around, be sure to give him a thanks.

Again, I am very proud of Zelda Capital and all that has come with it, and let me say that it has been a fun two years. Hopefully we’ll be around for much longer.

Enjoy the layout.

In other news, our good friends Zelda Dungeon have a beautiful new layout. Please go drop them a visit.

EDIT - Oh how I hate GoDaddy. Sorry for the downtime everybody. I don't know how long the site was down, as I just saw it around four o'clock when I got home from school, but apparently the whole GoDaddy site was down as well. Hopefully this won't happen again.
