The following is a basic FAQ about the Legend of Zelda video game
series. What is Zelda? The Legend of Zelda is a very successful video game series that is widely considered to be one the greatest, most innovative video game series ever. Each Zelda game features creative puzzles, dungeons, and enemies. The majority of the games feature a similar plot, in which a powerful evil leader threatens the land and/or captures the princess. The hero must then pass perilous puzzles and trials to reach the evil one and defeat him and save the land and/or princess. Who are the main characters of the Zelda series? The Legend of Zelda series has three major main characters that appear in most every game: Link – The main character and always the character that you as the gamer control. He is the hero in every game that defeats the evil and saves the princess/land. Link is one of the three people that was chosen by the gods to save the land of Hyrule and was bestowed the power of the Triforce of Courage. Most people often call this character Zelda, because the series is called the Legend of Zelda, however, the series was named after the princess that he saves. Zelda – Zelda is the damsel in distress of the Zelda series. Princess Zelda belongs to the royal family of Hyrule, and is always being captured by various villains and then saved by Link. The series is named after this princess. Zelda is also the second person in the trio chosen by the gods. She possesses the Triforce of Wisdom. Ganon(dorf) – The third most important character in the Zelda series, Ganon, also known as Ganondorf is the main enemy in the Zelda series. He is called Ganondorf when he is in his human form, but called Ganon when he is in his beast form. He is constantly threatening the land and trying to control the full Triforce to take over the land. He was the third person chosen by the gods and wields the Triforce of Power. Where do the games take place? The games don’t necessarily take place in one central place. However, the most well known host of the Zelda games is the land of Hyrule. He directed the majority of the Zelda games, however, lately, Eiji Aonuma has taken the role as director, though Miyamoto still watches over the games’ development. Is there any official timeline for the games? Unfortunately, no, there is no official timeline for the games. However, it is a favorite of Zelda fans to try to come up with a way to connect the games. But as of now, there is no official timeline. What is the Triforce? The Triforce is the sacred artifact left behind by the gods when they created the land of Hyrule. The Triforce has a rather large history behind it, but in a nutshell, the Triforce is a special magical item that has the power to give its owner anything he/she wants. In total there are 15 main Zelda games. They are all listed below. However, there have been many spin-offs, but they are not considered canon by the Zelda community, so are not listed here.
